Kaslo’s “Angry Hen” ferments her years of brewing experience with passion and outrage to bring you the finest of beers. Tradition mixed with innovation creates unique beers renowned for their solid good taste, seasonal inspirations, and queer sensibilities. Co-owner and brewer Shirley Warne has been part of British Columbia’s craft beer scene for a long time. After starting her brewing career in O

ntario, she became the first brewer at Steamworks Brewpub in Vancouver when it opened in the 1990s, winning over the owner with a six-pack of her homebrew. She later consulted with several other brewery start-ups before opening Angry Hen. Angry Hen aims to be Kaslo’s living room. The focus is on good quality beer served in a comfortable, welcoming space.

Well cluckers, we got Sly Violet flying back through Saturday, Sept. 5 from 7 to 9pm!

📣 You didn’t hear wrong: Violet and Sly will be back on the Hen-house stage to break us into September, and they’re bringing some new songs from the Darkwoods EP, along with the guitar, harmonica, and those little drum beats Sly keeps tucked in behind her!

They’ve played a few thousand shows between them, give or take, so we’re honoured they’re coming around to feed us their awesome tunes here at the hen-house 🧡🐓

As always, $5 gets added to your tab for the show.

Kevin (Kevin John) will be behind the sound, helping folks get up there and make some noise.

No cover. Kids welcome until 8.

We’re clearing some room at the bar for the Hip 🎤 🐓

Yes! The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration will be on the TV at the Hen-house this Saturday at 7pm, and we’re going to be out from behind the bar for a bit, beers in hand!

Probably singing.

Also…maybe crying.

Depends on the song.

Anyway, it’s been ten years since Gord left us. Hard to believe. So if you’re a Hip fan, come have a beer and watch it with us.

And if you just like a bit of Canadiana, a small town, and a bunch of folks remembering some very good music, you’re welcome too.

We know the beer’s good, but apparently we did alright too.

So thank you for the very kind words! Jolene and Grace are going to be unbearable after reading this, but they earned it 🤭

And for the record, you’re welcome back anytime. We’ll make sure there’s an IPA waiting for you 🍻

PS: Here’s what Damon had to say in full after his visit last week:

“Outstanding brew pub. Every beer I had was exceptional, and I’ve tried every one of them but the IPAs. The ladies working the bar are extremely friendly and the service was exceptional. Humoring us drunk Americans. Highly recommend grabbing a couple growlers to go. Jolene and Grace (Brenda) are, hands down, two of the friendliest Canadians I’ve ever met. Couldn’t ask for better, friendlier people. The beer is outstanding but these two young ladies make the Angry Hen a destination. I will make it back any time I’m here. Anyone saying otherwise, is either wrong or did something wrong. The only way you could have had a bad experience is if you were a bad customer.”

A little note for anyone who’s wondered how the heck ordering works around here 😳

We realized we might not have made it all that obvious, especially if you’re visiting us for the first time.

So please, come in and sit down. Make yourselves at home. When you’re ready for a beer, come on up to the till and we’ll get you sorted!

You can start a tab, yap with us while we pour, and we’ll serve you right there at the bar 🍻

Then go sit back down, stay at the bar, head out to the patio, whatever you like. It’s your afternoon.

Just don’t flip any tables! 😜

We’re looking at a few ways to make this a bit clearer for out-of-towners, too. Until then, now you know 🧡🐓

We’ve always had high ‘hops’ around here. (Not sorry for that one).

These ones just happened to stop by the scale before heading into a new batch of good old brew!

Big thanks to Hamill Creek Hops for growing beautiful hops right here in the valley. If you’ve never wandered out toward Argenta this time of year, it’s worth the drive just to see those vines climbing.

Makes us brewery folk smile. 🌿🍺

You know who we like? Folks who love the open road 🚐

Cuz there’s easier ways to spend a Saturday than loading your gear into a van, pointing it at the mountains, and hoping the next town’s got good people and cold beer.

Lucky for us, Flowshine keeps doing exactly that. They’ve been knocking around this country for years, playing wherever folks’ll listen. Big places. Little places. Campfires. Bars. Probably a few spots that shouldn’t have had live music in the first place 🤠

Anyway, they’ll be here Saturday, August 29, from 7 ‘til 9.

Five bucks goes on your tab for the show. We’ll have a jar out if you figure the band’s earned a little gas money for the next stretch of highway 🎶🐓
