Anyone who knows me knows how much I enjoy working with technology. I have spent the last 25 years working for some of the biggest companies either in hands on IT support or managing IT teams, the transaction to farming is my second kick at the can and so far it has been interesting, from a barn fire to a broken leg, we have had an interesting ride.
Please read to the end.
Last night we got the following -
Hello idiot! - They got my name right😀
I’ll be direct. This is a cyber extortion. We have copies of internal communications, your contact list, and files from your cloud accounts.
Your email access was hijacked and:
- ALL of your emails have been downloaded and archived on a separate server
- A copy of ALL your contacts has been saved (see below for excerpt).
- A copy of ALL your OneDrive files has been exported.
If a sum of $500 USD in crypto (BTC) isn't sent to the bitcoin address below within 72 hours from (November 12, 0:00 LONDON, UK) the time this email has been received:
1) An archive of your emails and OneDrive files will be distributed to all your contacts including the ones listed below.
2) The material will also be made publicly available on a breach website.
3) Your corporate files will be compromised - expect serious consequences, including possible firing.
BTC Address: bc1q8uxwr2qp2smkjx0plgza8lkfwl5mt7k7key3t4
BTC SUM: 0.0049 BTC
Instructions how to buy Bitcoins are attached as "BITCOIN-HELP.pdf".
DO NOT REPLY to this email with negotiations or technical questions, because:
1) This message was sent from your own account (you can verify this in the email headers).
2) This inbox is not monitored, and any replies will not be received.
Using automated software, each email we compromise gets assigned a unique BTC address, once it is paid:
1) Your email address ([email protected]) is marked in our system as “paid,” and all collected files will be returned to you.
2) No one will learn your account was compromised, and your data will be permanently removed from our servers.
If the BTC payment is not received by the deadline, we will disclose the materials to your contacts and publish them publicly.

We laughed at the email, changed all of our passwords and implemented new security protocols but this brings home to me how serious protecting your online business is, even when you don't have a ton to lose.
