🌱 GOOD MORNING FROM CONNELL FREEDOM HOMESTEAD 🏡

Another day of feeding animals, collecting eggs, milking goats, working on projects and trying to knock a few more things off a list that somehow never actually gets shorter. 😂

But we wouldn't trade it.

We're still learning every day, making mistakes, trying new things and slowly building this little 5 acres into the life we've pictured for our family.

More food produced at home.
More skills learned.
More independence.
More time outside.
More connection to where our food actually comes from.

We're definitely not experts and we're nowhere near finished.

We're just a family figuring it out as we go and sharing the journey along the way. ❤️

🎉 Happy 9th Birthday to my beautiful girl, Octavia! ❤️

Nine years ago today, our second little girl came into this world and made our family that much bigger, louder, crazier and better.

It honestly blows my mind how fast these years are going. One minute you're holding this tiny baby in your arms, and somehow you blink and she's 9 years old already.

Octavia, I hope you always know how loved you are and how proud I am to be your dad. Keep being yourself, keep laughing, exploring, learning, and bringing your own personality into everything you do.

I wish I could slow time down just a little, but since I can't, I'll just keep trying to soak up as much of it as possible.

Happy 9th Birthday, Octavia! 🎂🎈❤️

Been thinking a lot lately about what I actually want long term for myself and my family.

Ultimately, I want to build up our property to the point where we can provide pretty much all of our basic needs ourselves. Grow and raise our own food, have our own water, heat, power, storage, tools and the skills to actually use all of it.

I want our kids to grow up knowing how to raise animals, grow food, fix things, preserve food, cook, manage money and just generally know how to take care of themselves.

But I also have no interest in completely walking away from modern life.

I still want to build successful businesses, invest, travel, have nice things and give our kids all the opportunities and experiences we can. I want us to enjoy the luxuries and conveniences we have today while they're available.

I just don't want us to NEED them.

If the grocery store is stocked, we'll shop there. If the power is on, we'll use it. If we want to go out for dinner, take a trip or buy something nice, absolutely.

But I also want to know that if any of those things weren't available for a while, we'd be alright.

And hopefully none of that ever becomes necessary. Hopefully our kids grow up in a world that keeps moving forward and they never actually have to rely on everything we're building.

If that's the case, great. We still end up with a productive property, lower living costs, useful skills, financial security and something we can hopefully pass down to them one day.

I think that's really the end goal for me.

Enjoy everything today's world has to offer, build wealth and live a good life, but at the same time build a family and property that doesn't completely depend on it.

Best of both worlds.

☀️ Good Morning from Connell Freedom Homestead 🐐🌿

The coffee is hot, the chores have started, and these three are already waiting at the gate like they haven't eaten in a week. 😂

Life on the homestead isn't always easy, but mornings like this remind us why we love it. Every feeding, every project, every lesson learned brings us one step closer to the life we're building for our family.

Today will be filled with animals to care for, projects to tackle, and plenty of memories to make.

We wouldn't trade it for anything.

Wishing everyone a productive, peaceful day. May your gardens grow, your animals stay healthy, and your coffee stay warm. ❤️
