🐴 Farn (Fax I x Monarch): A Foundation Stallion of Dutch Showjumping 🇳🇱✨

When looking back at the development of the modern Dutch showjumper, Farn is a stallion whose influence deserves serious recognition. 🏆 Born in 1959, this Holsteiner stallion combined the blood of Fax I x Monarch and went on to become an important foundation sire in Dutch sport-horse breeding.

🌟 From Holstein to Dutch Breeding

Farn was bred in Germany by M. Thormählen and stood approximately 1.69 metres. His sire was the Holsteiner stallion Fax I, while his dam, Dorette, was a daughter of Monarch. 🧬

This makes the familiar shorthand Farn (Fax I x Monarch) correct, although more precisely his pedigree is Fax I x Dorette (Monarch).

Farn became part of Dutch breeding during an important period in which breeders were developing a more specialised riding and sport horse. 🇳🇱🐎

🧬 Farn's Greatest Legacy: Nimmerdor

Without question, Farn's most famous contribution was Nimmerdor. 🌟

Born in 1972, Nimmerdor was by Farn out of the Koridon xx daughter Ramonaa. He developed into an international showjumper before becoming one of the most influential breeding stallions in Dutch history.

Nimmerdor's breeding influence was enormous. His approved sons included major names such as Ahorn, Wellington, Goodtimes and Heartbreaker. 🏆

Through these descendants, the influence of Farn travelled far beyond his own direct offspring and became embedded in generations of international jumping pedigrees.

🏆 A Proven Breeding Influence

Farn's reputation grew largely through the performance and breeding quality of his offspring. His contribution was eventually formally recognised by the KWPN.

In 1991, Farn was awarded the prestigious Preferent predicate posthumously. ⭐

The KWPN described him as an important breeding stallion with considerable direct and indirect influence. Official KWPN records list 608 offspring, demonstrating the scale of his breeding career.

Farn also produced several approved stallions, meaning his genetics had multiple routes through which to continue influencing later generations. 🧬🌳

🇳🇱 An Important Chapter in Dutch Jumping History

What makes Farn particularly interesting is the way his legacy developed over time. His historical importance is not based on a celebrated international competition career of his own, but on what he produced.

His descendants demonstrated the jumping qualities that breeders were seeking, and Nimmerdor became the outstanding example. 🐴⚡

Through Nimmerdor—and especially through influential later descendants—the Farn line became connected with some of the most recognisable names in modern showjumping breeding.

🌟 A Legacy That Lives On

Farn (Fax I x Monarch) is therefore much more than an old name on a pedigree.

He represents an important bridge between Holsteiner genetics and the developing Dutch sport horse, with an influence magnified enormously by his legendary son Nimmerdor. 🇩🇪➡️🇳🇱

For breeders and pedigree enthusiasts, Farn is a perfect example of how a stallion's true significance may only become fully apparent through later generations. 🏆🐴🧬✨
