Tomorrow is a big day at the farm — it’s alpaca shearing day! 🦙✂️
Every spring, alpacas are sheared to remove their thick fleece before the hot summer weather arrives. Unlike many animals, alpacas continue growing fiber every year, so annual shearing is very important for their comfort, health, and wellbeing.
Their fleece is incredibly warm and can become heavy and uncomfortable during warmer months. Shearing helps prevent overheating, keeps them clean, and allows us to check their overall health more easily.
And don’t worry — alpacas are not hurt during the process. In fact, most of them feel much happier and lighter afterward! 😊
It’s always an exciting day at the farm and amazing to see just how much fiber comes off each alpaca. Stay tuned for photos and videos from shearing day tomorrow! ☀️🦙
