THIS BOTTLE TAUGHT ME…
Don’t judge a wine by its color.

This Vinho Verde looked intense. Deep, dark, almost inky.

But the wine in the glass? Not nearly as big and bold as its color suggested.

And here’s the part that surprised me even more: Vinho Verde can be red.

You might know Vinho Verde as the light, refreshing Portuguese white that begs to be served chilled. But the Vinho Verde region produces red and rosé wines too.

Sometimes the bottle (or its color) doesn’t tell the whole story.

This bottle taught me a new place on the wine map.

Before this bottle, Erdut wasn’t a region I knew much about. Now it’s somewhere I plan to explore further.

Located along the Danube River, Erdut is home to vineyards with a long winemaking history and a grape that deserves more attention: Graševina.

This wine was fresh, bright, and incredibly approachable; a great reminder that some of the most exciting discoveries aren’t always from the places we already know.

This is one of the reasons I love wine.

Every bottle has the potential to introduce us to something new: a new grape, a new region, a new story.

Try a White Wine You’ve Never Heard Of Day

A completely unnecessary holiday created for a very necessary reason:
Too many great white wines are still waiting to be discovered.

If you don’t join in, the only consequence is missing out on some deliciously undiscovered gems. Go on. Get a little adventurous.

Sip Happens: Wine Buzzwords Decoded
Today’s Buzzword: Natural

“Natural” might sound simple, but when it comes to wine, it’s anything but.

In general, natural wines are made with minimal intervention, both in the vineyard and the winery. The goal is to highlight the grapes and where they’re grown, with as few additions or adjustments as possible.

Unlike terms such as “organic,” there is no single legal definition of “natural wine,” which means winemaking practices can vary widely from producer to producer.

Next time you see “natural” on a bottle, think less about strict rules and more about a winemaker’s philosophy of stepping back and letting the grapes lead the way.

Taste with curiosity and decide for yourself what you enjoy.

Same grape. Same region. Different soils.

We tasted two 2024 Loureiros from Encostas do Lima side by side: one from granite soils (Granito) and one from schist soils (Xisto).

Could we taste a difference? Absolutely.

Was there a winner? Nope.

Some tasters preferred the Granito. Some preferred the Xisto. A reminder that terroir can shape a wine, but personal preference tells the final story.
