How to build a Damp-Heat clearing Chinese soup 🌿💧
This is perfect if you’re feeling heavy, bloated, sluggish, have sticky phlegm or internal heat + dampness. This soup base helps dispel dampness, clear damp heat from the body, and strengthen the spleen to prevent more dampness from forming!
🌿 STEP 1: Build your BASE (the key!)
These are your core ingredients:
Fried job’s tears (yi yi ren): drains damp + strengthens spleen
Dried shiitake mushrooms: boosts Qi + digestion
Green beans (mung beans): clears heat + drains damp
Yellow mung beans: clears heat + promotes urination
Dried scallops (optional but powerful): adds depth + nourishes yin
Dried honey dates: protects digestion + balances the soup
🍲 STEP 2: Add your PROTEIN (optional)
The best choice is pork over chicken or beef. Pork is neutral to slightly cool (versus chicken and beef are warmer), easy to digest, and balances the cooling ingredients.
🥒 STEP 3: Add COOLING MELONS / FRUITS
These are great ingredients that compliment the soup based. They help clear heat, promote fluids, and lighten te body! Consider: winter melons, silk melons (luffa), snow pears (dried or fresh), arrow roots, lotus roots, fuzzy melons, old cucumbers, chayotes.
This isn’t just “cooling” — it’s strategically designed to support humid, hotter Spring or Summer days (very common in Hong Kong where it’s just humid). Also perfect for hotter skin conditions (like break outs) and if you’re feeling bloating (from heavy meals or water retention). Soup design that supports the body is intentional.
