🌱 The Month of May 🌱

Mental May… what a month it’s been at Lane End Farm!

From cold, rainy days straight into sudden heatwaves, the weather has certainly kept us on our toes 🌦️☀️

It’s also been a busy time saying goodbye to some of the polo ponies heading off to their summer jobs. We’ve been hard at work getting them all prepped, polished and ready to go back home.

Alongside that, we’ve been full steam ahead tidying up the farm — mowing the campsite, getting everything looking its best for the Bank Holiday weekend, and keeping on top of the never-ending jobs like fixing fences and general maintenance.

Now, our focus shifts to June as we start preparing for Open Farm Sunday — we can’t wait to welcome everyone!

Here’s to a slightly calmer (we hope!) June… 🌿

After livestock have grazed a paddock, farmers often “top” the field to remove rough patches, weeds, and older grass stems. 🌱

This encourages fresh, healthy regrowth, improves grazing quality for the next rotation, and helps keep pastures productive throughout the season. 🚜🐄

A topper is a machine attached to a tractor that cuts longer grass and weeds down to an even height. Unlike a lawn mower, it is designed for tougher agricultural work and is an important tool in pasture management on farms.

Henry did a great job of these stripes today….wonder if Caleb would be happy enough with them?!

It’s all go here on the farm — today’s the day the sheep are getting their haircuts! ✂️🐑 Busy, noisy, and always a bit of a workout, but such an important job to keep them happy and healthy.

Nothing like a fresh shear and some spring grass! 🌱

🐑 Fact Friday at Lane End Farm 🐏

Did you know sheep have excellent memories?
They can recognise up to 50 faces (both sheep and humans!) for years 👀

So yes… they definitely know who brings the snacks around here 😄
