Smudge giving her calf a daily moo-tivational speech 🐂

With the last 50 ewes left to lamb, calving continues to roll on. We have just 35 left to pop, we’re already enjoying seeing our future herd finding their feet on our little corner of the South Downs 🏞️

Although not over yet, both lambing and calving 2026 have gone incredibly well, and the focus begins to shift from getting the summer grazing regime up and running 🌱 we’re certainly praying for a good rain now though! ☔️

📸Cattle out on the chalk grassland and in the river valley doing what they do best

Autumns feels like it’s well and truly here, and for the first time since May there’s green grass infront of the cattle 🌱

And what’s going on?
🌱grass leys planted and starting to grow like stink
🌾 winter wheats about to be planted - this year the plough did come out to incorporate the muck and bury some weeds
🐑 rams have been busy with the early lambers - lambing 2026 now pending
🥩some fat lambs from April are almost ready to go
🐂 calves will be weaned at the end of the month and spend the winter inside
