Jean Josselin is a proudly independent, family-run Champagne house based in the village of Gyé-sur-Seine, in the heart of the Côte des Bar. The domaine was founded in 1957 by Jean Josselin, who left the local co-operative to produce and bottle his own Champagne—a bold move at the time. Today, the domaine is helmed by Jean-Pierre and his son Jean-Félix, the third generation. Together, they bring a blend of experience and fresh perspective to the business, with a focus on quality, sustainability, and authenticity.

Their Champagnes reflect a deep respect for tradition, while remaining open to innovation. With each generation, the Josselin family has built on the last—deepening the connection between the land, the vines, and the people behind the wine.

From a teenager working the land to support his family, to building a Champagne house from the ground up with his wife, Cristian Senez’s story is one of determination and devotion. Beginning with just a few cleared acres, Cristian learned his craft in the cellar before producing his first cuvées in the 1970s.

Over time, the Senez family grew their vineyards, expanded their reach, and passed the reins to the next generations—each bringing fresh energy while holding true to Cristian’s original vision: to create Champagnes of exceptional quality and honest value. Today, the house remains proudly family-run, producing wines that honour both their land and the people who have shaped it.

The story begins in 1737, when the Monmarthe family bought their first vineyard, though it wasn’t until 1930 when Ernest Monmarthe first started bottling under the family name. Each successive generation has contributed to building the estate’s identity, balancing tradition with a forward-thinking approach to viticulture and winemaking.
Today, it is Jean-Guy Monmarthe, along with his son, Gauthier Monmarthe, who oversee the house, carrying on the family legacy with energy and passion as the 6th and 7th generation winemakers. Jean-Guy’s commitment to crafting wines that reflect the richness of their Premier Cru terroir has earned Monmarthe a loyal following in France and abroad.

In 1901, Bennoni Mansard crafted his first bottles of Champagne. Over the decades, the estate evolved through changing times, yet the family’s passion and pursuit of excellence remained constant.

Today, Maxime Mansard carries forward that legacy with Champagne Achille Princier, drawing on fruit from very old vines planted by his ancestors. Grapes for this cuvée come from select parcels first established in 1930, preserving the traditions and craftsmanship that have defined the Mansard family for over a century.

Fatherhood is about more than just passing down a name. It’s about passing down values, wisdom, and purpose. The families behind these Champagnes understand this, which is shown by the preservation of legacy throughout the generations.

At Jean Josselin, the bond between father and son continues through the vines of Gyé-sur-Seine, where tradition meets innovation with every generation.

For Monmarthe, seven generations have carefully tended their premier cru vines in Ludes, with each father handing down not just knowledge but a deep respect for craft and stewardship.

And at Achille Princier, family heritage remains at the heart of their wines—reminding us that every great Champagne carries with it the story of those who came before.
