EEKKKKK! We got the garden & flower section in Tuesday evening! 🌱🌱🌱

We have put so many hours into this and I cannot wait to see everything we will harvest!

I have some dahlias that aren’t loving all the sunshine & warm weather so I tied a sheet up for some shade.

A pepper plant isn’t happy about my over watering either so I’m holding off with more water until it perks back up!

I think I’m mostly excited to see if we can get full growth out of the trellises! Hoping to get some good shots of the boys by them.

We have been working hard getting our raised planters put together so we can plant our flowers & veggies this weekend- these planters took longer to put together than I thought and even longer to fill!

We were putting the second planter together when Mother Nature decided to give us a little hail!

Our white radishes are so close to their harvest time- got to test taste a few with our lunch. 🫜

This weekend we are hoping to get all of our flower seeds & tubers in the ground- need to work that area up.. get rid of weeds and rocks, plant the veggie plants/ seeds, plant the luffas we grew from seed & our started dahlias!

Fun weekend ahead in the garden!

Meet Bob1, Bob2, Bob3, Bob4, Bob5 & Fluffy (grey/silver chick).

We hope none of them are actually “Bobs” but here they are! 🩷

No idea what breeds they are which makes it even more fun to watch them grow!

We didn’t see any of our chicks hatch but an old phone took a time lapse video so the boys could learn about the hatching process!

The timeline the boys got to experience:
Day 1–18: Eggs develop inside the incubator.
Day 19: The chick internally pips—breaking into the air cell to take its first breath.
Day 20: External pip! They create a tiny crack in the shell.
Day 20–21: The chick slowly “unzips” the shell.
Hatch: Out they come—wet & exhausted! Once they dry out they are so adorable!

We hatched 6 fluffy butts & the boys love them!

We learned about winter sowing and were successful with all of our seeds!

We mainly focused on flowers which are still in the jugs until it’s a bit warmer at night but our peas, carrots and radishes have been replanted and are thriving!

Carrots were a trial only- they don’t love root disturbance so we will see if they actually produce anything edible!

Every night we work in the garden makes me even more excited to add more raised beds, flowers & veggies!

We have LOTS of annual flower seeds to direct sow, luffa plants & started dahlias.

Plants we will buy from a local nursery will include:

Cucumbers
Zucchini
Tomatoes
Peppers (Bell & Hot)
Bush Beans
Rabbit Greens
Some Herbs

We have started our luffa seeds indoors in hopes to scrub with them this fall- I’ve heard they can be a bit picky **or maybe it was harvest can be tricky.. either way 😆** but this process has been so much fun so far!

Banks helped me clip off the pointy end of the seed.. we let them soak for a couple days then let them hang in the window for a few days until we had root growth.

Today we made a seed snail in hopes they take off so we can transplant them in a month or so!

We are loving having curly tails again this spring/ summer.

The pigs get so excited hearing the boys running to the barn- usually because they have many treats in their hands for them. 🐽

I stumbled across pig toys/ enrichment from QCSupply.com and they are loving it! I have never seen anything like this before so I decided to pass it along!

They may only have a short life with us but we make it the very best possible.

Links are in the comments of what we bought!

The boys decided our pups needed a whole bag of chicken feet treats tonight.

Frozen chicken feet are a natural, nutrient-rich chew that many dogs love! One of the best benefits is they are high in glucosamine & chondroitin to support their old joints.

If you raise your own meat chickens like we do make sure you take advantage of all the “extras”! Chicken feet also make the best broth!

Today had us so excited for spring! 🌱

We have a 16’ by 16’ area we won’t have animals in this spring so we are making it a garden! Banks and I did a little prep- we will burn once the wind dies down.

Gibbs and I have planned for a pumpkin arch, 8’ by 16’ flower section and the other half will be raised garden beds full of vegetables!

We have not had a garden in years- excited to have one again! Peep a photo of Tilly, Gibbs bunny, who will help out with the fertilizer!
