Almost every morning I can find the Bebe and Raven laying on the front porch, in the dirt, or my once flower bed 🥴. Great Pyerenees like to dig holes to lay in.
This week I found all 3 sleeping in a row.

How much better could this industry be if more people remembered what this was really supposed to be about?

Because yes, we all want to win.
We want the banners.
The buckles.
The backdrop pictures.
The validation that the hard work paid off.

But at the end of the day, the greatest thing this industry produces was never meant to be livestock.

It’s people.

Young people who learn responsibility before most adults do.
Who learn how to lose gracefully.
How to work when they’re tired.
How to care for something besides themselves.
How to shake hands.
How to be humble.
How to keep showing up.

And the truth is, if we sacrifice those things in the pursuit of winning… then we missed the point completely.

The best stock show families aren’t just building champions in the ring. They’re building good humans outside of it too. 💙

With LSDs you can see their path around fences. This spring I noticed their paths through the yard. Two of them lead from the house and barn to the outhouse and one across the front of the property.

Family Farm Fact: the same clothesline my grandma Beard used. The outhouse is original and was used until they put indoor plumbing in the house and yes, that's lilac bush behind it.
