Madonna, son of Millie, sweet and tender, a spittin’ image of his mama. He was the last birth of the ‘26 season, and the last birth for Mille. He was surgically castrated at 3 months, allowing time for important development, and giving him the best chance of living a long, healthy life as a wether. He was sedated and given pain medication, with the goal of making the process of castration as easy on him as possible. He has the potential to become a wonderful pack goat with his size, conformation, and demeanor. You can call him Donnie for short, if you’d like. His pack mates were waiting patiently during his procedure, and very curious about his status. What a special goat!

Jack and Jill Frost had a nice dance in the garden, with a finale that put a quick end to the growing season. Luckily, not before tomatoes and peppers made it safely indoors to satisfy the senses. The rich red colors are glorious, flavors magnificent, and the smell of summer lingers just a little longer.

The end of harvest season delivers a mix of grief and gratitude. What a gift to grow food!

The garden is winding down, although the sunflowers don’t seem ready to call it end of season yet. Most rows are now filled with cover crop, and the high tunnel still yields some colorful bounty for a little longer. We had a productive growing season and sent a lot of organic produce home with youth summer camp attendees. It feels good to grow food. The Crest at Willow-Witt

Fall is falling! We’re excited to be drying out pantry staples like onions and garlic for the winter, as well as some eye-catching color for the mandala-making event with Cory Glory at The Forest Conservation Burial Ground later this month.

Join us this Wednesday from 10am-12pm for the third installment of our Weeding Wednesday series. We’ll talk about conservation in the Cascade-Siskiyous, introduce you to some invasive thistles, and work together to manage them out of our meadow!

The babies are already teenagers! Playtime includes kid of the mountain and gymnastic jumping. We’re holding them and giving them lots of snuggles while we still can.
