Introducing HRFM Trophy's Emeralda or Emmie. This filly is proof of unmerited favor in my life. Her dam was the nervous auction mare that I bought at the urging of my friend- in the moment, all I saw were her banged up knees and terrified face, with pretty ears. SSMF Realistic Rosalie (Regal Masterpiece x HVK Noble Rosalie) is a treasure and I am happy to report, becoming a more solid citizen, after a year at Hemlock Ridge Farm.
Last year, when I reviewed her pedigree, I found that she had nearly 15% Trophy blood, an old government horse bred in 1949, celebrated for his high stepping trot, and champion offspring. I searched out a match for her in Aquarian New Moon, one of the last breedings of the well known and admired Herricks, who brought forward Trophy breedings through Trophy's Emerald, their foundation broodmare.
I'm thrilled by Emmie: she's graceful, dainty yet strong, balanced with a big upright trot. She's calm and thoughtful, smart and snappy. I'm still can't believe that I got my filly: 25% Trophy's Emerald, nearly 20% Trophy, over 70 YEARS later.

Check out the last photo: Emmie walked the length of the driveway tucked under my arm. That's the kinda personality she has. Sweetness!!
Ps: for the horse breeding geeks out there, this little horse only has a 2.43% inbreeding coefficient, meaning that she's out bred, or has only 2.4% ancestors in common.

HRFM Storm Walker (HRFM Amberfields Tornado x RNH Delights Glaze) is almost 2 months old already! Born the day Chuck Norris died; hence the name. We are so pleased with Tornado's first foal! Maple season at Hemlock Ridge Farm!
We know that our hill is cold, so we start tapping in early March, Kelvin and I enjoyed an afternoon date, then Madeline and Kelvin finished the following day. We tapped about 500, have boiled 4 times so far, only needing to fire for 6 hours each time. We've made more 40 gallon so far, golden, rich, buttery syrup. We'll have plenty of maple syrup in stock in the farm store, in glass and plastic half gallons for $28.00/ea, and quarts for $16.00. Thanks to all you lovely people who source your syrup from our family. Pictured: Caroline was so happy that the sap ran on the weekend, so she could help her dad milk cows and tend the evaporator. #
