What a party. 🎉
Saturday's Block Party was a big one - the parking map got a workout, and so did the bike racks (thank you for walking and biking, by the way…it made a real difference). We planned for a crowd and yet again, got a bigger one (we estimate ~3-4k people!).
10% of all sales from all vendors on the block - pizza, drinks, groceries, art, the works - is going to the Brunswick Community Education Foundation (BCEF), which helps provide extra funding and supplies to teachers and classrooms in Brunswick. We're still collecting tallies from everyone, but the short answer is...many thousands of dollars!
It takes a lot of people to pull this off, so a huge thanks goes to our neighbors and co-hosts Wild Oats and Morning Glory - the Landing has grown a lot in our (nearly) 10 years open, but their presence in our neighborhood has been the biggest growth engine by far - and boy, does it make our daily lives convenient and delicious 🤤
We also hosted many many community organizations, who each brought something special to the event. Thanks to the Landing Y for the bounce house, and to Midcoast Humane for the puppies (yeah, one of us is adopting...). To the BCEF volunteers who worked the whole event start to finish. To Caravan Artist Market and every one of their artists and makers who set up on the block. And to The Jazz Coast and Sons of Quint, who kept the whole street moving from 4 'til close (which was later than we planned, thanks to their excellent jams!).
The thing we keep coming back to after a day like Saturday: this community shows up. For a good cause, absolutely. But also just because it's a Saturday in September and there's a band and a bounce house and a pizza with your name on it. People getting together, kids running around, good food and drink along the way - that's our mission, and Saturday was a pretty good day for it.
