Meet Squeaker! Yes, his name is kind of emasculating, but that doesn't stop him from being the head honcho around here. He was attacked by a hawk as a chick and his neck feathers never quite grow in all the way. While we were nursing his wounds after the attack he was so sweet and squeaky and would hang out on our laps for pets. So before gender was even known he was dubbed Squeaker. He is currently the eldest rooster we own and the King of the Coop.

Meet Penguin! She doesn't look like much of a Penguin now, but as a chick she was white and black like a Penguin and that's how she got her name. She has always been friendly and used to hang out on me literally. She is Daisy's baby, but paternity is unknown. Penguin stays with the Silkies which drives me nuts, but she is a sweetie. I've tried moving her but she defects back to the Silkie coop.

Our little farmhand Atlas turns 14 months today! He's a mover and a shaker. It's been a pleasure to watch him grow and enjoy all the farm chores and being outside with chickens.

So occasionally you have a chick born with splay leg like Little Foot here that needs a little extra care. Little Foot was given mash to eat and was also made leg braces in order to learn how to walk correctly. I typically use vet tape in cases of splay and also use the cup method of physical therapy and have had good success with minor splay leg at hatch. And yup that's my living room carpet...I know... some people will find this weird.

Yesterday we said goodbye to my good friend of 13 years. Iggy was always a very clever boy. He will be missed dearly by our family and his cat siblings.
