Well I attempted our first breeding of the season this morning and I'm 99.9% sure it was unsuccessful. Miss Snow just wanted to head butt Elan repeatedly. In fact, she was being so mean to him that I ended up taking him out for his safety. And yet Miss Snow has all the signs of being in heat. Ergh. Yes, I'll be trying again tonight to see if she'll be more responsive to him then. 🤞

We planted one more willow tree the other night as we have a natural spring that runs through the pasture. We have a few more seedlings that we hope to plant also.

Did you know that willow trees are good for goats due to their unique chemical properties, nutritional value, and browsing appeal? Yep, that's right.

🌱 Willow contains natural tannins which is a natural dewormer helping to reduce parasites and stomach worms in goats. Parasites have a much harder time building up a resistance to tannins unlike commercial dewormers.
🌱 Willow bark contains salicin, a natural plant compound (the base for aspirin) that helps relieve minor aches, pains, fevers, and inflammation in goats when eaten.
🌱 Willow boasts the immune cell populations in lactating goats providing anti-inflammatory properties and it has stress-alleviating effects.
🌱 The tannins in willow helps slow the digestion of proteins in the goat's rumen, lowering the risk of dangerous feed bloat.
🌱 The leaves, twigs, and bark are rich in fiber which supports a healthy digestive tract.

My second batch of goats milk soap is now complete. 🧼

This newest batch is Hyacinth scented and it features rosey pink swirls throughout. This bar of soap is going to be perfect on those cold harsh days of winter as it smells like a fresh spring day.
