I was foraging plaintain yesterday and found a heart shaped leaf ❤️

I didnt realize it until I was washing them and I thought two were stuck together. Sure enough they had naturally grown like this!

Not quite sure what I will make with the plaintain leaves so I am dehydrating them for future use.

I will never not be amazed at the power of the sun. Check out this before and after.

We had sauce the other night and it stained the tray to the highchair. I gave it a good scrub and it was still giving pasta stained Tupperware vibes, so I stuck it out in the sun.

Checked on it a few hours later and look at how white it looks!

Before -> After

The girls have been shedding their winter coats and a few needed a little help getting it removed. Typically our cattle will use our scratchers and get most of their winter coat removed but our heifers seemed to have a hard time this year.

This is Margarine (Butters daughter) and with her coat brushed, you can really see her brindle coat!

We used 2 different brushes to work out the knots and mats. It took a good amount of work but she seemed to enjoy the clean coat and neck scratches.

Look at all of that hair!

I recently had someone call me a luddite.. and if the shoe fits, then I shall wear it 🤷‍♀️

I can't be the only one who prefers art made solely by real people without the use of AI.

To read books and listen to audiobooks created by real people without the use of AI.

To see only real people on social media who make their own content and don't use AI.

And worst of all, I want to speak to a human when I call customer service. Yes.... even John with the accent.

Although, I bet most people in customer service don't want to talk to the upset callers 😅 I don't blame them, but when my package arrives busted, I really don't want to have to jump through hoops with AI to do returns.

This is your friendly reminder to figure out what plants you might have in your flowers beds before you start pulling "weeds".

I was looking into what this plant was (I was planning on pulling it out) when I determined it was a black raspberry plant. I have no idea how it got there but it will be cool to have some wild black rasberry growing!

What do you think? Is it a black raspberry plant?

Managing Stock Tank Algae

Our cattle waterers are spring fed and are constantly running with fresh water. However, one of our waterers is full of algae. While algae is not typically harmful, it can impact taste and reduce water consumption by cattle.

This algae growth is likely due to hay being dropped in the waterer by our cattle.

In the past we have cleaned out algae as needed to try to cut it back and by summer it is usually gone.

We also have been utilizing goldfish in the tank which has seemed to help. However, it has been hard to get goldfish to survive. We had a handful who were doing really well but when we checked yesterday, we noticed that only one goldfish remained. Whether it be due to predators or being sucked down the outlet pipe during a heavy rainfall, we are not sure.

I would be interested to hear how others manage algae growth in their waterers. We are going to get some more goldfish once it warms up and we will be doing some more research to find a way to reduce algae growth. For example, adding a copper pipe into the waterer.

How to manage mayapple in pasture?

We were doing an inspection of our fields when we noticed some mayapple. For those of you that are not familiar, mayapple is poisonous to humans, pets, cattle, and swine!

So currently we are looking into how to manage mayapple and get it out of our fields.

It seems for now we will be out digging it up with a shovel!
