We often get asked, “What is a CSA?” CSA stands for Community-Supported Agriculture. Basically, customers pay ahead to reserve a weekly share of produce. We offer Summer and Fall Season Shares, for a total of 18-weeks of produce starting mid-June. We also offer bi-weekly options for those smaller households, as well as Apple-only Shares.
Each Summer or Fall Share includes 7-12 items, along with emailed weekly recipe ideas. You can expect to receive staple vegetable items that you are already familiar with, such as potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, and carrots. There will also be some items you might be less familiar with, like bok choy, fennel, or Asian pears.
Our longtime CSA customers often tell us that they really enjoy the variety that we provide in our shares. We are able to provide this variety because we collaborate with other farmers in Eastern Iowa. This allows us and other farmers to focus on growing the crops that work best for our farms while still meeting the needs of our community.
This means when you purchase a CSA from Buffalo Ridge Orchard you are helping to support over five other farms! Farming is a team sport and we know that the only way to grow our local food system is to work together. This season we are expanding our CSA and are looking for new CSA members.
