Squash planted!

It doesn’t look like much but we just planted a 1/2 acre of winter squash. We moved up our planting date by a week to take advantage of the forecasted rain on Wednesday.

We should have literally tons and tons of winter squash this Fall!

Strawberries 🍓 will be available June 13th at the farmstore!

Farm-store hours:
Tuesday-Saturday 10am to 4pm

This season it was challenging to source strawberries. Many strawberry farmers in Iowa faced cold temps that damaged plants and then freezing temperatures during bloom.

Thankfully we were able to snag strawberries through Iowa Food Hub! We are so grateful for our local food system that helps us bring quality produce to our community!

Big Salad week! It is going to get into the 90’s this week. Stock up on salad makings so you can avoid turning on your stove and oven. Also this is the first week for snow peas and bok choy 🥬!

New apple washing line test run!!!

We saved a bin of our number two apples so we could tweak the setup of our new line ahead of apple season. Our first 90 degree day seemed like a good day to work on this project.

We will be processing these apples in apple butter over the next few weeks. Don’t worry we just surveyed fruitset in the orchard. We are on schedule to have pretty good apple crop.

We are harvesting mountains of Hakurei salad turnips this week. These mild sweet tender turnips are pure perfection. We like slicing these roots and enjoying them raw. However they are also amazing roasted or added to a stir-fry. Make sure to save the tops for an outstanding cooked green.

Irrigating our recently seeded carrots. This might just insure we get a downpour tonight…….Hoping the weather isn’t too severe over then next couple of days.

It is officially warm enough to plant basil in eastern Iowa. This season we are selling eight different types of basil including the entire Everleaf series.
