It's weigh in day!
The four giant watermelons were packed safely into the farm van for the drive over to LL Goodnight & Son where they could be weighed in for the Rowan County Fair.
Once we arrived, Mr. Ben carefully took each watermelon to the scales.
The giants weigh
in at 97.5 pounds, 85 pounds, 82 pounds, and 72 pounds.
It was so fun watching them grow from tiny melons into great big ones!
Now Grandad & I are resting in the recliner!
Wish us luck at the fair! Come out to see all the agriculture exhibits Sept 21-26!

After months of hard work, it was time to harvest the giant watermelons. 🍉
Bexley was excited to have a small watermelon to munch on while her friends loaded up the giants.
Bexley had a great time growing the giants and making sure Grandad did things correctly! She is his best buddy-especially when he cuts melons for her to enjoy😋🐾

Who knew? We missed National Potato Day yesterday.
We’ve been growing potatoes for years and they do great on our sandy loam soils. Look for more in the spring.

Very quick trip yesterday afternoon to check on the giant watermelons. Bexley discovered there were no watermelons to eat & she was not pleased about this! It was so hot that we didn’t stay out long enough to get great videos…she said maybe in a few days.
Bexley is sad to share that her largest melon died and the second largest is sick and not doing well. All that rain & this crazy heat!
She suggest you stay inside and take a nap.

This summer we participated in the CALS (College of Ag & Life Sciences) Rural Works internship program with NC State University. From the moment we met Luke, we knew he would be a great fit for the farm. What we ended up with was a bonus son! He fit in seamlessly with our family and we shared work, meals, laughs and truly enjoyed our summer together.
We were blessed to share farming and family experiences with Luke. Now he’s back in Raleigh starting his Senior year. Luke plans to farm in the future and we hope we can help him succeed.
Special thanks to his amazing parents for sharing him with us the summer. We hope to see you all again soon.

Family businesses are sometimes hard to manage, especially when the Family part comes first! Sorry for the late post and notice, but we are not at Salisbury market today. I have been on a week long 2800 mile trek with my mom to visit Josie & Talton. We delivered items to Josie that were too large for her to take on a plane and met Talton in Arkansas at his internship to move him back to Mississippi State to begin his Junior year. This meant David was at home & on the farm trying to keep things a float without me, and social media was not on his mind!
The rain and continued heat have caused significant problems with the crops. And it is typical for us to downsize to only one market in August. We simply don’t have enough produce or help to continue both markets.
Please reach out if you have any questions and look for more post now that I have returned.
Again, sorry for our absence…hope you all understand & forgive us.

Today marks the final delivery of our 2026 Old Fashioned Home Delivery season. 15 weeks sure did seem to fly by!

This season has brought its share of highs and lows. We endured a severe drought, said goodbye to dear family and friends, celebrated Josie graduating from college, and finished the season with so much rain that our harvest wasn’t quite what we had planned.

Through it all, we’ve been surrounded by the support of the very best customers who we consider our “farm family..” Your encouragement, kindness, and loyalty mean more than you’ll ever know.

Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your family’s table each week. We hope you enjoyed your Old Fashioned Home Delivery, and we can’t wait to do it all again in 2027. It’ll be here before you know
