August is Gastroparesis Awareness month!! My oldest got diagnosed last March and it’s just been crazy ever since. He now has a feeding tube and is on continuous feeds pretty much 24/7. 💚

Just wanted to share this again. It’s getting really bad here in Texas!! What tricks are yall doing to beat the heat?

HEAT STRESS
With heat indexes climbing please be aware of your chickens behavior.

Panting and carbon dioxide release changes the acid-base balance in poultry. Adding baking soda to your chickens' water can help counteract the acidity and prevent acidosis. (1/4 cup per gallon)

Note: Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is essential to egg production, when it is hot their systems pull it away from egg production which could lead to further issues developing.

STOP using ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) during extreme heat events, as ACV increases the risk of acidosis developing.

This needs to be done BEFORE symptoms set in but catching it as quickly as possible will likely save your birds.

SYMPTOMS
•Labored breathing and panting
•Pale combs/wattles
•Lifting wings away from body
•Lethargy
•Diarrhea
•Seizures/convulsions
•Death
