🍂🦉 A LITTLE AUTUMN MAGIC AT RUSTIC OWL FARM 🦉🍂

53 degrees, a chilly wind blowing, leaves dancing across the yard, and this old farmhouse is calling for something warm from the oven. 🍁🏡

The scarecrow is keeping watch outside while I’m getting ready to attempt something new in the kitchen… my very FIRST focaccia bread! 🍞😬

Now, whether it turns out looking like something from an Italian bakery or a science experiment remains to be seen. 😂🤷‍♀️ But that’s half the fun of trying something new!

There’s just something about a cool autumn day, a cozy kitchen, and the smell of homemade bread that makes a person grateful for the simple things.

May your day be full of a little magick, a little adventure, and something good baking in the oven. 🧡✨

Baking day at Rustic Owl Farm! 🦉🌾

​Instead of tossing out my sluggish sourdough discard, I decided to test a hybrid loaf recipe—combining the rich, tangy flavor of discard with a pinch of commercial yeast to guarantee a nice lift.
​It worked like a charm! Fresh, warm bread cooling on the rack and the kitchen smelled incredible. Highly recommend this trick if your starter is playing hard to get! 🍞🔥

🍤 First visit to Myers Drive-In in Marion, IN! 🍤🍔
​We checked out Myers Drive-In for the first time, and it was such a great experience! It’s a classic, no-frills spot with fantastic service and delicious food. We pulled up for the car hop service and ate right in the car (though it’s great to know they have indoor seating, too!).
​Everything came out piping hot:
✨ Shrimp box with crispy tater tots
✨ Mini corn dogs
✨ Fresh cocktail sauce made in-house with just the right amount of horseradish kick! 🌶️
​We are already planning our next trip back to get a breaded tenderloin and a cheeseburger! 🍔

Chicken & dumplings are supposed to have FLAT dumplings.
Not biscuits.
Not fluffy little dough clouds.
FLAT. DUMPLINGS. SLICKERS. 😂
That’s how Mamaw, Grammy, Nana AND Bubba made ’em, and I’m standing by it. 🤷‍♀️😂
If I wanted biscuits in my chicken, I’d make chicken & biscuits.
Now go ahead… tell me how your Mama, Grammy, Nana or Bubba made theirs.
I already know the comments are about to get spicy. 👀🤣

Farm Insurance Update #12: Construction Day is Here & A Sign From Above 🛠️🕊️✨
​At 7:30 AM sharp this morning, the trucks rolled onto the property and work officially began! After months of fighting for this claim, seeing crew members up on the roofs is the best feeling in the world.
​But the most incredible part of this entire milestone happened yesterday.
​Yesterday marked the anniversary of my dad’s passing. His name was Alex, and he is always in my heart—especially on days like that. Yesterday was also the day Clear Choice Restoration delivered our giant dumpster and sent out the foreman to review the full farm project before construction started.
​When the foreman introduced himself, my jaw dropped. His name is Alex.
​Coincidence? I don't believe in them. It felt like a gentle, reassuring sign from above letting us know that my dad is watching over us, and that everything with this huge project is going to be just fine. ❤️🕊️
​Jimmy, Alex, and the entire crew are hard at work making sure every single building gets restored right. The noise of nail guns and hammers has never sounded so good!
​💡 HELPFUL HINT FOR MY FOLLOWERS:
​Trust the timing and look for the signs! Major restoration projects are overwhelming and stressful, but when you surround yourself with the right team, things have a way of falling into place exactly when they are supposed to.
​Thank you all for sticking with us through every plot twist of this journey. We are officially under construction! 🔨🏠🌾

A very sad looking pumpkin patch this year. I guess from all the storms? Only two nice pumpkins 🎃 last year I had about 20. 😔

🦉🍂 Well, Goodbye August… Hello September! 🍂🦉
August, you were a hot, busy, sometimes crazy little month — but somehow you managed to fly right on by!
Now September is knocking on the door, and I’m perfectly okay with answering it. 😉 Bring on the cooler mornings, bonfires, changing leaves, cozy evenings, pumpkin everything, and all the good things that come with fall. 🍁🎃☕️
There’s just something about September that makes you want to slow down a little, breathe in that crisp air, and enjoy the simple things.
So here we go… another month, another chapter, and plenty of farm days ahead. ❤️
Goodbye August. Hello September.
