Week opens still pricing Friday’s CME close — Monday’s board wasn’t settled yet at draft time.

Friday CME: October live cattle settled $218.87 (−$0.20). December live cattle closed $222.15 (+$1.05). October feeders settled $334.92 (+$3.17). November feeders closed $331.97 (+$3.90).

USDA AMS boxed beef (LM_XB403, Fri afternoon): Choice $378.83 (+$2.71). Select $355.76 (+$3.66). Choice/Select spread $23.07.

Takeaway: feeders led the board Friday while boxed beef firmed. Watch whether that strength carries into this week’s cash cattle trade.

Perilla Mint: This is a highly toxic plant to livestock. This time of year as desired forage begins to fade, cattle and other farm animals gravitate to the Perilla Mint. There is no treatment once an animal shows clinical symptoms. It is difficult to manage since it also grows on the shade.
