✨ Bunny Baby Update ✨

Our spring litters are growing FAST here at Custer Critters Hobby Farm and we are finally starting to see some of their colors and markings come in! 🐇

We are seeing:
🖤 Solid black
🤍 Red eyed white
🩶 Blue / smoky gray
🤎 Castor
🧡 Fawn
🐄 Broken marked babies
✨ Frosted shading
👀 Tiny eyeliner markings
➰ Dorsal stripes and unique spotting

Some of these babies are turning into absolute little works of art and every day their personalities are getting bigger too. We officially have babies hopping out of the nest boxes, exploring, nibbling grass, and causing tiny bunny chaos. 😂

A few of these grow-outs are already catching our eye for potential future breeding stock, but we plan to continue evaluating:
✔ structure
✔ growth
✔ temperament
✔ fur quality
✔ and overall type

The rest may eventually become available after we decide who we are retaining for our rabbitry program.

Huge shoutout to our amazing mama rabbits who have even accepted foster babies into their litters. Watching these does raise babies together has honestly been incredible.

Stay tuned for more baby updates because these little fluff potatoes are changing every single day. 🐰💕

🐣 Prairie Bluebell Update! 💙

Our very first Prairie Bluebell Egger hatch is officially underway and we are SO excited with how these babies are turning out already!

So far we have:
✨ Beautiful pale cream/yellow chicks
✨ Some adorable fluffy cheeks & muffs already showing up
✨ One little splash-marked baby taking after dad 🩶
✨ Strong, active chicks with excellent vigor

These chicks are from our true BBS Ameraucana rooster, Pretty Boy, crossed with our high-production Leghorn hens and aiming for colorful egg layers with excellent laying ability and unique looks.

We’ve decided to retain this first hatch group to grow out and evaluate egg color, feathering, muffs, and production before offering future batches more heavily.

🥚 More eggs will be incubating soon and hatching eggs are available upon request!

We can’t wait to watch this project continue developing here at Custer Critters Hobby Farm 🐓💙

Flopsie’s babies are growing fast and their little personalities and colors are starting to show already! 🐇✨

The striped markings are becoming much more visible as their fur comes in, and I’m fascinated watching these genetics unfold day by day. Some kits are staying very light while others are developing darker dorsal striping and shaded ears.

One of my favorite parts of breeding rabbits is seeing how much changes in just a few days. These tiny marshmallows are turning into some very interesting little rabbits already. 💕”

Re*****on’s babies are doing amazing so far! 🤍
I honestly expected much darker kits from this pairing, so I’m fascinated seeing so many white and lightly marked babies right now. Genetics are wild sometimes. 🐇✨

As their coats continue developing over the next couple weeks, we’ll get a much better idea of what colors are hiding underneath. Right now we’re seeing signs of:
• possible dilute/blue influence
• broken pattern markings
• shaded/pointed traits
• and some very lightly marked kits that may develop darker ears, noses, spots, or dorsal striping as they mature

It’s always exciting watching the “mystery reveal” stage with baby rabbits because their true colors can change so much from birth to weaning. Some of these little ones already have me very curious. 👀

Re*****on is being such a good mama and the babies are growing fast already. 💕

This litter appears to have a little bit of everything — dark selfs, smoky blues, lighter kits, and some babies already showing interesting markings. It’s going to be so fun watching these coats come in over the next few weeks because newborn rabbit colors can change dramatically as fur develops.

One thing I absolutely love about Chonk is how calm and attentive she is as a mama. She immediately checks on her nest anytime I peek in and has been doing an amazing job caring for her babies. 💕

I’m especially excited to see which kits end up keeping those deep dark colors and which ones surprise us with hidden genetics as they grow.

Re*****on delivered 8 healthy kits for her first litter.

I caught this beautiful photo of Re*****on tending her nest and her baby before she moved it into the nest with the rear.

If you guessed Re*****on as the next dam to kindle, you guessed right. 🐰

What better day to have your babies than Mother’s Day!

We have some healthy, wiggly baby bunnies over here at Custer Critters Hobby Farm 🐇🤍

As soon as they felt the warmth of my hand, they were busy searching for a meal. Flopsie is doing an amazing job caring for her first-time litter and keeping those babies fed and warm.

Now that their fur is starting to grow in, we’re beginning to see some really fun colors and patterns developing already.
Right now it looks like we may have:
• Broken patterned kits (spotted)
• Possible fawn/orange coloring
• Some darker agouti/chestnut tones
• Maybe even a lightly marked “Charlie” baby 👀

It’s amazing how much variety can show up in one litter, especially while learning more about the genetics in our herd. We can’t wait to see how these little fluff potatoes look once their fur fully comes in over the next couple weeks! 🥹

Some rabbits just know what they want… and Snow made that very clear 😅🐰

Within days of arriving here, she managed to escape her cage and make her way straight to Peter… like she had a plan all along.

Safe to say—mission accomplished.

Snow is an experienced, attentive mama, and we’re so happy to have her here at Custer Critters Hobby Farm 🤍

Californians have quickly become one of my favorite breeds, and I’m really excited to continue building our program with them.

Now we’re counting down… her Californian × New Zealand kits are due around the 11th 🐣

If her personality is anything to go by, these babies are going to be something special.

Who else loves a determined mama? 👀⬇️

As I promised here is an update on Flopsie’s babies.

All snuggled up, everyone warm and fed and doing well on this afternoon check up. They all look like they will be white or broken. Only time will tell.
