From Kenya to Your Cup: Celebrating International Tea Day
On this International Tea Day, I can’t help but reflect on the Denton Tea Festival we just celebrated. I had the honor not only of exhibiting and sampling our Kenyan teas, but also speaking about something dear to me: Kenya’s growing presence in specialty and orthodox tea, and the unique journey of purple leaf tea.
What stood out to me most was the intrigue surrounding purple leaf tea. Many attendees — including lifelong tea drinkers — had never heard of it before. I also had conversations with people who didn’t realize that Kenya grows tea or that Kenya is one of the world’s leading tea exporters.
That is why a day like today is so meaningful. International Tea Day gives us a moment to celebrate tea beyond the cup — the farmers, the communities, the culture, the innovation, and the stories behind every leaf.
From Kenya to your cup, I’m grateful to share this journey and continue introducing more people to the beauty of Kenyan tea.
