Happy June Folks!! Which means Dairy Month!! 🐮🥛
When driving by our farm & farmstand you can see a sign on are shop reading “DKB Dairy LLC” & I have been asked several times recently why we have two different names for our businesses.
So let me explain to you & give a short background on our farm to kick off Dairy Month!!
I hope to make several posts over the month telling you about our farm and the dairy industry so stay tuned!
Dustin and I have both grown up in the dairy industry and the passion we shared for dairy farming is what originally brought us together. Dustin grew up on his families dairy farm in Addison County while I grew up on the farm we are at now, formerly known as Green Valley Organic. In 2020 we met and in the fall of that year I made a very difficult decision to leave my families farm and move to Dustin. The next spring of 2021 we decided to open Vermont Roots Farmstand together as our own business separate from his families farm. We continued to run Vermont Roots together, Dustin worked on his families farm and I worked at a neighboring farm for a couple of years. In the spring of 2023 within a few weeks of each other both of our families decided that it was time to sell out. We were given the opportunity to purchase my families farm so we packed everything up including around 40 heifers we owned at that point, 80 chickens and a few pigs and goats and moved up here! On March 6 of 2024 (our twins were only 5 days old 😅) we signed the paperwork to officially become DKB ( Dustin & Katie Brace) Dairy LLC and own the farm. And here we are 2 years later! Another sweet baby, a lot more grey hairs but lots of love & happiness.
So in the long & short of it Vermont Roots has been our business throughout the changes of the last few years and has earned its own name separate from the dairy! 😃 If you made it this far in my long post, thank you!!!
Let me know what you would like to learn about our farm this month!
