The AV room is starting to take shape. The artists may be the heart of a concert, but the people controlling the sound and lights are the ones making sure everything actually works. They’ll be safely tucked into this lofted space overlooking The Garden, running the show from behind the scenes.

Think less Wonderful Wizard of Oz behind the curtain and more highly trained professionals with a lot of buttons.

Two weeks until the Hundred Acre Wood takes over the sidewalk in front of Edenton Commons.

Pooh’s House will be ready for candy and photos, Tigger’s Bouncing Spot will be waiting for some serious bouncing, and the honey pots will be ready to see who can help Pooh collect the most honey. It will all go up for Halloween and come back down again when the night is over, so you’ll have to catch our little corner of the Hundred Acre Wood while it’s here.

Something is haunting Edenton Commons this October. Is it ghosts? No. Ghouls? No. What on earth could be more frightening? Change orders. They tend to appear just when you think it’s safe to open your email.

AR Chesson is doing a great job keeping costs in line, but restoring the historic Belk-Tyler building on this scale comes with surprises that simply can’t be helped. We appreciate their work. We would also appreciate the building keeping a few things to itself. In the meantime, we’re considering a séance for the construction contingency. We don’t expect it to work, but neither did telling the building we had a budget.

Do the personnel lifts look like they’re in equipment jail? Because they kind of are. The new walls are going up so quickly that our lifts appear to have been framed right into the building. We have been assured there is, in fact, an escape plan. We are choosing to trust the professionals.

It’s almost hard to remember what this place looked like not that long ago. In some ways, it actually looked better then than it does right now. Renovation has a very awkward middle phase: first you take apart everything that looked finished, then you spend months making it look substantially worse, and eventually it all starts coming back together.

We are firmly in the “substantially worse” portion of the program. But not for long.

The fan-favorite Boiler Room is officially getting its glow-up.

This little brick space is only days away from getting a much larger roll-up door, connecting it to our covered outdoor area and making the space far more useful when North Carolina weather decides not to cooperate.

The brick stays. The character stays. The tiny opening does not.

We were recently asked about attire for our events. “What should I wear?”

Good question. We’re encouraging cocktail attire for both Monte Carlo for a Cause and Midnight at The Garden, and we expect most guests to dress for the occasion! Think suits or dress pants with a jacket, cocktail dresses, dressy jumpsuits, and a little sparkle.

Your Sunday best is welcome too—dressing up should be part of the fun, not a source of stress. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Something is coming this Halloween to South Broad Street…

For Halloween, we’re bringing a little bit of the Hundred Acre Wood to the sidewalk in front of Edenton Commons.

We’re creating several stops for our young visitors to explore along the way, and we’ll be sharing each one as it comes together.

Next up: Pooh’s Honey Collection Station.

This one is all about helping Pooh collect a little honey.

Guests will toss honey-colored bean bags into honey pots and see how many they can land. A simple little game, a little friendly competition, and one more stop along our Hundred Acre Wood Halloween path.
