Located in the rolling oak-dotted hills of southeastern Arizona, at an elevation of 4800 feet, Callaghan Vineyards produces rich, complex re

d and white wines from its 25 acre vineyard. Mediterranean and Spanish varietals - Tempranillo, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah and Grenache - are the basic building blocks for our red blends, while Viognier and Riesling are blended for our estate white wine. We’re just one hour south of Tucson. Callaghan Vineyard is open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 11-3pm.

Prefer to open bottles like these earlier rather than later. If you’re not reasonably tasty at 10 years, you’re unlikely to acquire that quality later. Both wines were opened last night and given the Vinturi treatment tonight. The Charvin has taken the longest to give up the goods, interestingly. Remains tight and lean with lots of pent up energy. Possibly an exception to my rule above. The Clos des Papes is a bit more showy - red and black fruit compote, smoky herbs and a sumptuous palate impression. Smoky herb action resonating. Both demand appropriate food pairing. I’d go with lamb or duck.
