Finally Farm Paints Color - Performance - Heart
We breed and stand APHA reining horses, rope horses and working cowhorses, and produce World Champions!

Finally Farm Paints is a small, family-owned and operated horse breeding business. We are building a fantastic broodmare band, and breeding to top stallions. We produce athletic APHA performance horses, with a pleasant dispositions and beautiful color. Our babies are handled from birth, and trained to lead, back, give to pressure, and lift up feet by the time they are a month old. Our early traini

ng and handling ensures that these horses will be easily started under saddle with little fuss and stress. They are turned out in a large pasture, with lots of opportunity to run and to develop their bodies. Our babies are given the best of care and opportunities; we send them to top trainers, and strive to sell to show homes.

I wish they wouldn't lay down this close to the fence, but this area seems to be a favorite. It must be soft and warm. I have my laptop outside to work and I kept an eye on them. If they made a move to roll into the fence, I was going to yell at them, but now they're both up.

It's gone! The horses kept eating, so our manure pile kept steadily growing over the last few years. I talked to the county extension office about it as well as the conservation district but they couldn't help much. People came and got loads for their gardens every spring and we used it for our own garden. A landscaper came and got a whole bunch last year, but still, the pile kept growing. This weekend, with a few large dump trailers and a couple tractors, including a very large one, and a dedicated bunch of great people, it disappeared! Thanks so much toTerri, Patrick and Eddie Carl, Christina Anderson, and Ryan Jonsson for the much appreciated work. And especially to Alicia Jonsson, for organizing as well as hauling! It's going to make a world of difference. Now the horses can stare directly at me from the gates telling me to hurry up as I'm cleaning their stalls!

It's always something with horses! I was finishing up some morning chores and Tahoma came up to say hi. Into the barn we went to wash the scrapes, spray with first aid spray, and smear Swat around the scrapes. I know it hurt because there is quite a bit of swelling. But he was a champ and behaved very well through the process. And cuts always look worse on white horses.

Trailer loading practice today. Milo, the black tobiano, has only been in a trailer when he went to the hospital when he was sick as a baby, so he probably doesn't remember it very fondly. Apollo, the perlino, hasn't been near a trailer for a while. Apollo got right in - such a good boy! So proud of him! Milo didn't get in all the way but did put his front feet in and was very calm throughout the whole process, so that was a win! It was the perfect day to do trailer training - dry, bright, relaxed. We definitely don't want to wait to try and get them in when it's an emergency, or the first time they're heading to training or a new home. We work on loading when there's no rush, when things are calm. We keep it stress free and reward each try along the way. It helps a lot that the horses trust us. QTs Uvalde Star and A Smart QT Miracle. Both by our APHA World Champion QTs Cajun Cub and out of Uvaldes Cow Smart. Both have a champion pedigree and carry the cream gene! Let us know if you're interested in learning more about one of these beautiful colts!

Foal flashback. This is Addie (QTs Smart Adalida). Addie is one of only two daughters of our 2x World Champion QTs Cajun Cub and out of Uvaldes Cow Smart, making her a maternal sister to our other multiple champion stallion Peptos Smart Cookie. Addie had a few years of cow horse training with million dollar rider Shane Steffen before returning home. Not quite sure what is next for this beautiful mare but it should great!

Advice needed on 3 bin compost system! We are planning on building a 3 bin manure composting system, similar (but larger) to the one pictured below. The idea is start filling one and have room for the tractor to get in there and turn and aerate the pile. Then, cover it and let it compost and start filling the second bin. Ideally, it would have a cement floor for ease of turning the pile with the tractor and removing the contents. But we quickly realized we don't have enough money to put in a cement floor. What types of surface have you used in similar composting situations? One thing to know is that it rains nine months out of the year here, so things get very wet.

Apollo (QTs Uvalde Star) is such a good boy! He really seems to enjoy people and always comes when called, even when no food is involved. 😃 This boy is ready for saddle training and new challenges in life. So if you're interested in having a champion bred and absolutely beautiful partner, let's talk!
