When you can make it from scratch… why wouldn’t you?!
Nowadays, it feels like nothing is safe in the stores—which is exactly why we try to make as much as we can from scratch. 🤎

Today’s simple swap? Homemade lemonade! 🍋🥤

It took us literally 5 minutes and THREE simple ingredients:
🍋 Lemon juice
🤍 Sugar
💧 Water

That’s it. THREE ingredients.

Meanwhile, many store-bought options come with a much longer ingredient list, including things like high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, and dyes such as Yellow 5.

But why, when something so simple can be made right at home?

We may not be able to control everything our family is exposed to, but we can make intentional choices about what comes into our home. One little homemade swap at a time. 🌿

Around here, it’s only the best we can give our family. 🤎

Simple ingredients. Homemade goodness. Raising our babies to know where their food comes from. 🌾🐄🍋

This past week, we were asked to sponsor a derby car competing at the Armada Fair—and WOW, what a blast it was!! 🤩

From helping build and decorate the car, to cheering from the stands, we had so much fun watching our buddy Jaden ROCK his very first derby! He finished 7th overall, which is AMAZING for his first time! 👏🏼🏆

And can we just say how COOL it was to see the Castillo Acres logo proudly displayed on the car for everyone at the fair to see?! 🥹🤎 There’s something pretty special about seeing our little family farm represented out there in such a fun way!

Way to stay hype, have faith, and ROCK IT, Jaden! 🙌🏼🏁

And apparently… this was only the beginning. 🤣 My husband had way too much fun helping build and being the official “pit man,” because he has now decided he needs a derby car of his OWN. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

So I guess Castillo Acres is officially adding “build a derby car” to the list of projects around here! 🔧💥

Here’s to working toward next year, making memories, trying new things, and probably having a whole lot of fun—and chaos—along the way!

Let the fun begin! 🏁🔥

🍑 There’s just something about a Romeo peach! 🍑

I spent my younger years growing up in Romeo—home of the Peach Festival—and every summer, fresh Romeo peaches were a staple of my childhood. We waited all year for them!

Today, my mom surprised me at home with a basket of fresh Romeo peaches, and all I can say is… YUM! 🍑🤤

Nothing like a little taste of childhood. ❤️

Thanks Mom! 🫶🏻

This week was one of those proud parent moments we'll never forget. ❤️

Addy and Allie came to Mama and Daddy with an actual business proposal. They had a plan, they had goals, and they knew exactly what they wanted to work toward. After talking it through together, they've officially decided to start making and selling loom bracelets!

🍀Why?
Every bracelet they sell will help fund their 2027 4-H projects.
This is exactly why we love 4-H so much. It's about so much more than showing animals. It's teaching our children responsibility, hard work, goal setting, entrepreneurship, and that when you're willing to work for something, it means so much more.

✨ Bracelets they already have made:
• $2 each
🎨 Custom bracelets (your choice of colors/patterns):
• $5 each
📦 Yes, we can ship!

The girls are already so excited seeing their first orders come in, and every purchase encourages them to keep creating and working toward their goals.

Thank you for believing in and supporting these little entrepreneurs. Your encouragement means more than you know! ❤️

Signed,
A proud mama 🥰

For those who are not local to us, last week was our St. Clair County Youth 4H fair, hence our absence on social media because this mama was busy prepping livestock, tiny humans and my sanity for the long show week.

But I’m happy to say, we made it! Tired, exhausted and yet so much fun 😆

This year was one for the books. This was our two oldest daughter’s second year showing. Although they are clover sprouts (meaning they can’t participate in auctions, big championship prizes until they are 8.) they took home ribbons. But-let me be clear, it is most certainly not about the ribbons. Instead it’s about the hardwork, grit, early mornings, late nights and all the memories in between that are shaping these kids. 🍀

Addy brought her 5 fancy chickens, and her Boer goat project Molly. She had a successful showmanship with her little silkie Smokey, and the judge absolutely loved her. She brought her polish hen, Tinsel who took 4th place in her breed class! Addy was a natural in the show ring with Molly, learned a lot from the judge on ways to set her goat up. She showed Molly twice-once in showmanship and once in breed class. Her breed class was out of the park! There was a mix of breeds, she took 5th overall the breeds and 1st in her breed!

Allie brought her Boer goat project Max, and her bestest horse Halo. Due to Allie’s age, Halo was not able to be on the fairgrounds all week long as she only showed Monday, so we hauled in on Monday. Monday was a long day as she didn’t show until the evening but Halo and Allie worked through it and absolutely rocked it! Halo’s career in showmanship is not really existent, but this week she did it like she’s done it for years!! Set perfectly, listened to Allie the entire time! Allie also got to participate in down and back as well as a walk only class. Halo did great! Allie loved being in the show ring with Max, although they are both young, they make a great team! Allie too learned from the judges, and got to show twice! She too showed in the breed class and was right behind her older sis taking 6th overall and 2nd in her breed!

As for mom and dad, we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments this year. Watching them grow and excel in the show ring and LEARN from the judges made it all worth it. Their smiles and excitement remind us why we do this. 🫶🏻

Here’s to starting to plan for next years projects! So far between the kids we’ve got horses, poultry, sheep, goats and rabbits. 🙃

*a few photos from this week, I do not own credits to some of these photos. We choose not to show our children’s faces on social media.

If you've been around our family for any length of time, you know we've been on quite the journey with our youngest daughter and her eczema.

Her breakouts were tough. Red, irritated skin, constant flare-ups, sleepless nights from itching, and a lot of trial and error trying to find something that would help bring her some relief. As a mama, it's hard watching your child be uncomfortable and feeling like you've tried everything.

A few months ago, we started giving her raw goat milk. We weren't looking for a miracle—we were simply trying to provide wholesome, nutrient-dense food and see if it made a difference.

Friends, the change has been incredible.

Her skin has improved so much that it's hard to believe we're looking at the same little girl. The angry patches that once covered much of her body have nearly disappeared, and she's so much more comfortable in her own skin. Seeing her confidence return and watching her play without constantly scratching has been such a blessing.

We get our raw goat milk each week through a local herd share from Blessed Nest Farm. They are an amazing Christian family who strives to serve the Lord in all they do, and we are incredibly thankful for them. Supporting local families who share our values while providing quality farm-fresh products is something we truly cherish.

Now, every child is different, and we're not claiming raw goat milk is a cure for eczema. We can only share our family's experience. For our daughter, it has been a tremendous blessing.
One of the reasons we love goat milk is that it's naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and probiotics. Whether that's what helped our little girl or not, we're simply grateful for the difference we've seen.

God has given us so many amazing gifts through His creation, and sometimes the simplest changes can have the biggest impact.

Hey friends! It’s been a little while since we’ve checked in, and we wanted to take a moment to say hello and introduce ourselves for those who may be new here.

We are The Castillo Family 🤍

Life has been incredibly busy lately. Between expanding the homestead, making adjustments as we grow, and simply keeping up with the beautiful chaos of everyday family life, our days have been full from sunrise to sunset. As many of you know, two of our children are heavily involved in travel soccer and showing horses, so much of our time has been spent on the road, at practices, at the barn, and preparing for our upcoming 4-H Fair, which is now just three short weeks away!

Like many homesteading families, we've had seasons where we've had to focus on the work right in front of us. We've been learning, growing, and making changes along the way, always striving to be better stewards of what God has entrusted to our family.

While we've been quieter online, we've certainly been busy behind the scenes. We've made improvements, welcomed new opportunities, tackled new projects, and continued building the lifestyle we love. Now, we're excited to be back and to truly bring you along for the journey. We look forward to sharing more of our day-to-day life, our animals, our projects, our successes, our lessons learned, and all the moments that make homestead living so rewarding.

Thank you for being here and for following along with our family. We are grateful for each and every one of you and can't wait to show you what's been happening around Castillo Acres.

📖 "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." — Proverbs 16:3

Here's to new beginnings, continued growth, and sharing this adventure together.

With gratitude,

This week homeschool looked a little different around here!
The kids traded their books for the barn aisle and got a real-life lesson all about horse hooves—how they grow, how they’re trimmed, and why proper hoof care is so important for a horse’s health.
A huge thank you to our bestest farrier ever for letting the kids get some hands-on experience and patiently explaining everything along the way. Moments like these are what make homeschooling so special—learning right alongside the animals we care for every day. 🐴
Safe to say we may have a few future farriers in the making! 🖤

We’ve been a little MIA over here at Castillo Acres… and for that, we’re sorry 🤍

Life on the farm doesn’t slow down, and behind the scenes we’ve been busy praying, planning, and preparing for an exciting 2026 season. Big things are coming, and we can’t wait to share it all with you!

But for now… we’re back!! 🙌
And what better way to come back than with a little glimpse of home 🥹

Our sweet little man, starting his morning the right way—“coffee” in hand and rocking his Spidey robe like a boss ☕🕷️

This is the heart of it all. Simple moments, big love, and a whole lot of gratitude.
Stay tuned… we’ve missed you all! 🤍
