It's amazing when a plan comes together. Sometimes it takes 16 months of doubt, worry, excitement and the gamut of emotions when you evaluate your own livestock. Almost 2 years ago a breeding plan was hatched and Saturday we found out that the plan worked as Pyper received the honor and privelage of winning the 2026 Wisconsin State Fair Champion Bred & Owned Doe in the Registered Meat Goat Show!

Sire - GISTT Painted By Decision (Hollywood)
Four years ago we started with two goats with DQ traits because we didn't know what we didn't know. We decided we needed to learn SO MUCH more...and here we are just four short years later. Our mission is to educate as many families and youth as we can about registered meat goats and share great stock with kids and families. With almost 2/3 of our show string being goats we've bred and owned, we're lazer focused on that mission.
The kids in our family have some big goals for their goats and breeding plans. Some are under way and some are yet to come. It's exciting to see a big goal come to fruition.
Thank you to so many of our meat goat friends, mentors and breeders for your kindness, support, excellent show stock and friendship along the way. We love spending time with you!
We were also honored to receive the Kathy Ogrizovich Herdsmanship awards. We were all surprised at the awards ceremony but I'm pretty sure it's because there are seven of us in the family and we're just EVERYWHERE! Thank you!
We're blessed to have had such a wonderful experience, with great friends, showing beautiful goats, doing what we all love and enjoy.

UPDATE: Everyone is alive! The doe is a first time Mom and didn’t know how to be a Mom and for some reason she didn’t get much milk in. She’s come around and wants to be a Mom - sort of. 😆 Unfortunately, her milk supply has not improved so we have bottle/bucket babies. 🥴

Sometimes things don’t go quite as we hoped/planned - ESPECIALLY with Boer goats! We’ve gotten really good at “adjust and proceed”.

Entering the show ring has looked a little different for a few members of our family.
Last week, Pyper had the privilege of being the judge at the Jefferson County Fair Sprouts Goat Show. She did an amazing job! She was poised, prepared, calm, smooth on the mic and wonderful with the age 3-7 exhibitors! We couldn’t be more proud!
This morning, Brad had the opportunity to judge meat goats for the Dane County Master Showman contest. He did a wonderful job working with the exhibitors, asking them to present their animal, answer meat goat related questions and demonstrate their understanding of the animal. Really a fun opportunity!
It’s exciting to watch the roles evolve for our family. We won’t be leaving the show ring any time soon but now they may be entering with a mic or a halter.

Are you looking for some tasty Blue Ribbon poultry? The Gefvert kids have been hard at work getting their meat chicken project dialed in for fair and now they’re ready for your freezer and dinner table. We have birds ranging from #5- #9 @ $3.75/lb. Please help support next year’s 4-H meat chicken project and the Gefvert children would be happy to make local deliveries! Thank you!

It’s been 24 hours since we wrapped up the 2026 Jefferson County Fair. This year was filled with so many experiences, friends and fun!
We will share some highlights of the week over the next few days.
While all of our kids love showing all sorts of large and small livestock, they also all love to bake! Every year they pick a recipe to make for the fair and they spend some time baking with Grandma Smiley. They always learn something new and have a ton of fun - plus we have lots of tasty snacks during fair week.
Hayden made a banana cake.
Pyper made chocolate sugar cookies and an awesome charcuterie board.
Fynnley made blueberry lemon zest coffee cake and beef jerky.
Mallory made strawberry shortcake and won Most Visually Appealing Dish!

What a start to fair week at the Jefferson County Fair!
⚪️ Whites! That’s right….WHITES! Pyper decided to try something new this year and with some help from friends, she had a great experience showing Fried Icecream! 🏆 Reserve Champion Registered Dairy Goat.
🐰 6-Class rabbits came next with a best in breed for Pyper’s Copper Satin Sr Buck. Seemed things were going her way as she came away with Supreme Champion 6-class rabbit!
🐑 A quick dart back across the fairgrounds to the sheep show and Pyper and Mallory did well with their bred & owned ewe lambs. Mallory with a white and Pyper with top red.
Market wethers were next and Mallory took red while Pyper finished with a blue.
✨ Sheep showmanship rounded out the day and the girls dug deep in the heat. Pyper, 3rd in a deep class. Mallory showed lights out and took Reserve Champion Showman in her class and showed in Champion showmanship drive!
👍 What an awesome start to fair week!
Today we tackle meat goats, more rabbits, meat birds, poultry showmanship and rabbit showmanship. Let’s do this!

Today was HOT 🥵 but it takes more than 90+ degrees to keep this crew from getting out and showing goats. We had a great time at the first JWMGA show at the Stoughton Fair! Judge Reed Burres gave great feedback to kids during showmanship and shared solid reasons for class placings so everyone understood what he saw in the goats he sorted. Thank you to the Stoughton Fair for hosting us for our first JWMGA one-day show!

✨ Grayce - Champion PeeWee Showmanship
📣 Mallory - Reserve Junior Showmanship
🏆 Hayden - Champion Registered Doe with LHFWI Kardashian’s Dark Secret
💥 Pyper - Champion Registered Buck with LHFWI Blackstone’s All About Jack

Our crew was the gathering place for so many goats and kids. At one point, there were kids we didn’t know helping pitch in and get goats ready, holding goats outside the show ring, supporting one another and feeling like part of a team. 📣 THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT📣 We feel strongly about supporting kids, making them feel welcome and building a community.

We walk away from today feeling immensely blessed, appreciative and fulfilled! Thank you to so many of you for being a positive place for kids to succeed! 🥰
