Our ladies are coming out of their winter laying slump…and we have eggs for sale. $5.00 a dozen.

A little Sunday egg-ucation. 😉

Did you know that eggs have what’s called a bloom on them when they’re laid. This bloom protects the egg from air and bacteria getting in, keeping them fresh longer.

This is why our ancestors didn’t refrigerate eggs - if unwashed they can be kept for at least 2 weeks at room temperature or at least 3 months in the fridge (usually longer).

Once washed, eggs are only good for about 2 months in the refrigerator. And did you know the eggs you buy in the store are typically already 30-45 days old?!

So, find your local egg dealer and get some of the freshest eggs you can buy! Plus know your farmer, know your food. Are they pastured or cage kept? What supplemental food do they provide - is it all corn? Are they loved and cared for? All of these things impact egg production and quality.
