As farmers are getting geared up for one of the busiest times of the year, we would like to remind everyone to keep their eyes on the road, slow down and be courteous to the equipment on the roads this time of year.
Remember, big equipment has to pay attention to things you don’t have to worry about in a car or pickup truck. Things like mailboxes, deep ditches, road signs, bridge guard rails, sometimes poles, utility boxes, etc. Hazards you don’t notice as your driving the speed limit, within 5 to 8 feet off the road, that a wide, tall combine/tractor driver has to navigate so you can pass safely.
Please give them space and grace as they work long hours trying to harvest the crops before the weather turns nasty on them. No one wants to have the combines or tractors on the road fighting freezing temperatures and salt on the roads.
Please remember, there is someone in that large equipment that lives in your community trying to put food on everyone’s tables. And someone waiting for them to come home.
