Well…. At least the horses are dry. The isle did not do so well. The storm continues to hit us from all sides. We are trying to secure everything we can while staying as safe as possible. Right now, with a barn full of safe happy horses, we are grateful that we were able to get everyone tucked away in their stalls in time to ride out the storm.

When there’s a tornado warning and the whole herd comes down to the barn for safe keeping 💗 thank you to all the helping hands that made this possible on short notice! This video was taken 25 minutes before the sky went black and we started getting hit with a massive storm. Hoping the worst of it passes us by.

This week we did some riding with a purpose: to harvest nature’s medicine! Elderberries are a potent immune booster, and we are blessed with an abundance of elderberry plants within riding distance! After cleaning, separating and drying these berries they will be stored for use as we prepare for winter. Dried elderberries are added to the horses feed at the first sign of illness. Our older horses often are given elderberries routinely as a preventative. As a result, we rarely see colds, coughs and runny noses from our herd! The health and wellness of our horses is our priority, and we believe that means staying as close to nature as possible. We are so grateful for the opportunity to harvest this key element in our horses immune system support, and are looking forward to gathering more elderberries later this week!

We strive to be a place for families, where anyone can come experience the magic of horses and the tranquility of the forest. In truth, none of this would be possible without the amazing creatures we share our lives with. Our horses amaze me each and every day with their kindness, their patience, their willingness to carry riders of every age and experience level. They share love without expectation, and are mirrors of our own emotions. Pictured below, Daisy is soaking up some love from a family after a ride. Daisy is a farm favorite with her sweet silly disposition and eagerness for affection. Moments like these give me such a deep appreciation for what we are able to do here, this is what being rich in life feels like ❤️

Buck has taken on the role of a guide horse and is thriving! While Jack Jack is recovering from a leg injury, Buck has stepped up to the task of keeping riders safe by making sure horses are in line, standing while saddles are adjusted, correcting horses that get distracted, cutting off horses that try to pass and leading trail rides when needed. Anyone that has known this big gentle gelding and his history knows what an accomplishment this is for him. Two years ago we brought home an almost feral gelding, who had been through significant trauma. After many months of decompression and learning routine, ground manners and that he was safe from the abuse he had endured, we started working toward teaching him that riding was something that could be enjoyed through partnership and trust. We could not be more proud of how far he has come. We had faith in him all along, and it has paid off! This boy is worth his weight in gold. Looking forward to his continued growth with us at Whisper Mountain Ranch LLC!

If you have been on a ride at Whisper Mountain Ranch LLC you have met Ausdynn and his mare Adira. The bond between this horse and her boy is… well…I’m not sure there are words to describe it. Leading the way for our riders, they are always ready for the next adventure. Ausdynn is not only a fourth generation farmer on this land, he is also my most trusted trail guide and farm hand. We are blessed to have these two!

Annalise and Kaitlyn have become regular riders here and are going to be added to our growing farm! Kait is starting a partial lease on one of our horses and Anna plans to move her horse to our farm as well!
