An ear tag is like a name tag for a cow. Ranches might tag differently. Some will only tag their heifers since they will be selling off their steers. We tag both, our heifers get theirs on the left ear and steers on the right. We put the year they were born, a letter that corresponds to the year and a number.

No matter how many calves we see born, it never gets old watching them take their first steps, find mom, and nurse for the first time. It is pretty amazing how they were created.
