The Great Cheesehead Futurity of 2026 is officially in the books for the Timber Ridge crew!
This year we loaded up a little bit of everything: a frosty red, a stripey brindle, a flashy stripey spotty brindle, and a black-and-white heifer.
How many futurities can say they held the awards inside the legendary Frozen Tundra at Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers? Just walking around that stadium was an experience we'll never forget.
Our girl, TR Black Luxe (RL Black Market influenced breeding) brought home the WIN in Class 7!! I'll be honest... I almost left TR Black Luxe at home. That buckle meant something a little different for the first time. It felt like the judges saw exactly what we value in our breeding program: sound feet, structural correctness, proper condition, with the added bonus of attractive horn and some flash of color. Those qualities matter just as much to us as inches of horn.
When you're competing in the older classes, it's hard to stand out if your heifer doesn't have that elite horn growth. Luxe has beautiful horn direction and steady growth, but black-horned cattle can be tough to compete with when it comes to horn. I kept second-guessing whether she belonged in our lineup.
We were proud of every single heifer we exhibited. One missed earning money by just 0.50 points in a large class, and another missed placing by 0.25 in the oldest class of the show.
We were also proud to bring our big, beautiful solid red heifer with the frosty face and twisty horns. We knew the Texas Longhorn world still isn't quite ready to hand a check to a solid red female, but we wanted to show her anyway because we believe in her. Her structure is outstanding, her horns are beginning to twist beautifully, and she's one of the easiest keepers in the pasture, even while sharing a feed bucket with three other heifers, including two pretty bossy ladies! We believe she's going to make an exceptional big twisty horn brood cow, and we can't wait to watch her future unfold.
Will we make one more futurity before the 2026 season wraps up? Maybe. But if this ends up being our only one, we'll head home completely satisfied.
What an incredible weekend. The Great Cheesehead Futurity brought together Texas Longhorn breeders from across the country. And where else can you find Cheeseheads and Da Bears fans celebrating together under one roof? The date was July 24th 2026 at Lambeau Field, brought together by a shared passion for these incredible animals.
We're grateful for the friendships, the competition, the memories, and the opportunity to be part of such a welcoming industry.

Now it's time to throw TR Copper's Dream in with TR Ridge Runner, 2 fancy heifers in the pasture to keep growing, and our Class 7 winner? She's expecting her first calf in August by TR Ridge Runner. Crossing our fingers for a speckled up or frosty black beauty, just like her mama.
