Same song, another verse.
I've written about this before, but some lessons are worth repeating.
Farming has always been like a candy store for me. I want(ed) to try Everything! However, just like the temptation of a sweets shop, one should limit their choices.
Thus, when I found a bushel of delicious sauce/canning tomatoes at a price I couldn't resist, I quickly chose to buy "theirs " instead of using my own sad-looking orbs.
The truth is, I really don't have the time or desire to carefully watch over a vegetable garden. So, that garden plot became a home address for a mama duck and her 9 children as well as for 14 meat chickens.
Along with the bugs and weeds, they ate my tomatoes, which I consider to be a healthy trade. In return, the chickens' new address will be my freezer, and a healthy duck family will soon move in with the rest of the quackers.
In the meantime, I get to harvest a year's worth of tomato products in less than 24 hours.
When you consider buying local, please understand that successful farmers are those who focus on what they do best. It takes more time to shop from several different farms, but the rewards are definitely worth it.
I am so thankful for my fellow farmers who produce what I can't . We are all thankful for you, our friends, who support us.
