Now THAT’S a pumpkin patch 🎃
Cheers to my hubby for picking weeds during his “free time”. 🧡

Summertime is coming to an end. Harvest time is creeping in. Meanwhile, now that I’m out of the newborn trenches I’m debating planting some fall crops since I missed out on the spring & summer crops. Is anybody else getting the impulse to throw some seeds in the dirt? 🥦🥬🫜

Pretty freaking dope that the first time I ever decided to sell any of my sourdough I sold out almost immediately lol.

It was a TON of planning and work just to bring a handful of sandwich loaves and rustic boules. I am TIRED and I give regular sourdough vendors and bakers a hugeeee round of applause for doing markets. I don’t think I will routinely do bread but maybe I’ll occasionally throw some in the farm stand.

If you snagged some of my bread today, please let me know what you think 💜

Thank you to Katz & Melissa for organizing a wonderful Imlay City Jr. Spartans event!

Between being up late prepping dough, my baby not sleeping, and being up early baking bread, this mama is going to bed *immediately*. Goodnight!!

I’m all set up at Imlay City Jr. Spartans Draft Night! I’ll be here until 9pm! I have a small offering of sourdough with me tonight as well but it’s going fast! 🍞

I’m super excited to support this event tonight as a vendor! As an Imlay City alumni, the schools there will always hold a special place in my heart. Come support their awesome Junior football program💙💛

The baking kick continues. This time, sourdough sandwich bread. I am setting up as a vendor Friday evening at Imlay City Jr. Spartans Draft Night. I don’t normally bring baked goods with me to markets & shows, so my question is…do I bring a few loaves with me Friday? 🤔

Unprompted reviews are our favorite. It’s one thing when we put you on the spot and ask “so what did you think of our chicken?” But, when people come out of the blue—many of which were first time customers—raving about our chicken…it’s rewarding in a way that can’t be explained.

We are feeding our community food we are PROUD of. We aren’t just trying to sling chickens for the hell of it…we want to produce food that is healthy and enjoyable.

If you took the time to send us a review, just know my husband and I read them to each other and smiled big cheesy grins and high-fived eachother like school children. 🥹

Read some of the latest reviews:

“My awesome sister in law made one of your recently processed chickens for us yesterday. It was Amazing on so many levels!
Side note, My husband just finished his first round of chemo and had a really rough day Saturday 😔 Food was not his friend and I was getting worried he wasn’t able to eat.
Yesterday he was able to eat and ENJOY your chicken! He actually asked for more last night, and commented on how good it was and how it didn’t mess with his stomach at all!🙌
I’m so happy he was able to fuel his body with your all natural chickens!🐓
We will be ordering more from your next batch!
Just wanted to share, because this was a blessing that we needed!”

“This was soooo good! So very juicy! My kids ate up all the dark meat so the breasts are left for my husband and I and they are delicious.” -Mary

“This is one I smoked up lastnight.
Frikkin delicious.” -Jason

“Oh my God. 10/10” -Cara

“We just finished our second chicken. They are delicious. Very tasty!!! If you raise more, please count us in for 10 more. Thank you” -Greg

“SO YUMMY! Thank you🤍” -Amanda

The homesteader’s counter. We all seem to have a nook in our kitchen where the day’s harvests and projects pile up. Where picking, gathering, prepping, and processing all collide on whatever flat surface is available. 🧺

Today mine is fresh picked yarrow, comfrey, a basket of eggs waiting to be sorted, a couple lower mullein leaves, some dehydrated walnut hulls to make infused oil with, and my sourdough starter bubbling and waiting to be made into dough tonight.

What’s on your counter today?🌿 I love to see what other people are up to and gather inspiration for my future counter piles. 💜

Been on autopilot for the last month or so. Bread making is one of those things that really forces you to slow down and breathe.

I’m going to be on a baking kick for a while until my mind is decluttered. Maybe I’ll have excess to share with you all. Maybe I’ll eat my feelings instead 😂

This was this morning’s sourdough. 🍞

Walnut Tincture is brewing! 🧙‍♀️

Since I didn’t have time for a produce garden this year, I have been playing around with what the Earth grows on her own. Dandelions, mullein, and now walnuts!

I never knew all the benefits of walnut tincture, but the more I research the more I want to make! 😅 It’s basically a natural iodine. You can (allegedly) take it orally if ever exposed to radiation☢️ and (allegedly) it is also a herbal dewormer 🪱.

It can also be used topically for fungal infections, including ringworm and athletes foot. There’s even been some animal studies about tumor shrinking properties. (The government is for sure going to flag me for saying that).

I have tincture steeping but I’m also dehydrating some hulls to make infused oil with, too! That way I can also make walnut salves in a couple months.

🌰WALNUT TINCTURE INSTRUCTIONS:🌳

•Using un-ripened green walnuts, cut the hulls away from the nut and put them in a clean glass jar. I found that using a hammer is easiest and quickest to accomplish this.

•Do not use any hulls that show signs of rot or smell putrid. They should have a fresh, citrus-like smell. WEAR GLOVES to prevent your hands from getting stained.

•Use one part walnut hulls to two parts alcohol. Use 100-proof vodka if using fresh hulls.

•Keep jar in a cool dark place for 6 weeks. Shake the jar daily during this time.

•After 6 weeks, use cheesecloth to strain and press the hulls from your tincture. Store your finished tincture in a clean, amber colored glass bottle.

✨Honor your dreams and they will honor you.✨

It’s a new week, and I’m ready to turn a new leaf after a really crappy end to last week.

We planted an impulse pumpkin patch and it’s starting to fruit! We have talked about doing this for three years, and this year the stars aligned! Husband last minute ordered a s**t ton of pumpkin seeds, and with the help of his boss and coworkers, they actually made it into the ground in time.

I’m very excited for cooler weather to reopen my stand and to have pumpkins for grabs then, too! 🎃
