Today we’re celebrating 10 years at BisMarket!

It’s opening day and I can’t help but to reminisce on the decade of Saturday mornings spent under the canopy. We dipped our toes in markets for the first 2 years, but it’s been a solid 8 years of showing up to market nearly every Saturday.

Our market community has watched us grow as a business, individuals and a family. (Our girls have only ever known Saturdays to mean market day - or ice cream day, thanks FOMO!).

Many of you have held our hands and hearts in conversations when times were tough and cheered alongside us for the wins.

You’ve shown up year after year, week after week and stood in lines so long I’ve been brought to tears many times. Arriving late with my littles, rushing to help Jonathon and having my breath catch as I see a community of people already there to help him and wait as long as they need to get their favorite goods.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I could wax poetic on what the market means to us, but I have baguettes to pull from the oven and babies to wake up who are SO excited for the first day of market for the year.

WE’re so grateful for this community and so excited to see you this morning!

🌱 Plant Sale Day 2!

If you made it out yesterday, THANK YOU. We had an incredible first day, but there is no shortage of plants…Our greenhouse is still FULL of plants ready for your garden!

⛈️We had a nice thundershower roll through just after midnight last night so our gravel roads are bit soft, but nothing super muddy.

☀️ The sun is shining here now and we're ready to see you!

How to get here:
Usually Google Maps does a fine job with directions, just make sure to type in 'Forager Farm' or 2175 53rd St, Mandan. If you've made it to St Anthony, you've gone too far!

🚙Follow the Signs for where to go and park.

⚠️Please be mindful and cautious while driving for our farm dogs, Luna & Penny. They are extremely friendly, but like to greet cars in the yard. Our cats are also roaming around. And most importantly this is a family friendly event and children are often joyfully running around.

🐶PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS/PETS

We can't stress this enough! This is a working farm with goats, chickens and cats. Our dogs are trained to protect our property and livestock and we do not want unfamiliar animals here.

Who else has a sweet tooth? 🙋‍♀️

When considering what to bake this week for our last preorder and for Mother’s Day weekend I of course had my mom on my mind. I definitely inherited my sweet tooth from her and she especially loves cookies and all things lemon 🍋

So my Almond Poppyseed Lemon loaf made it back on the menu with a few of our other standbys: Cardamom Banana Bread and Rye & Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don't have a lot of memories of watching my Grandma in the kitchen. I was usually in the basement playing with my cousins or running around outside exploring the farm my mom grew up on.

But the memories I do have involved her hands, usually working some kind of dough. Often buttered/greased hands while making her famous buns or caramel rolls. I admired how effortless she made it look and her rings (her wedding ring was my favorite) as they would twirl around as she worked and get a little sticky with dough.

Never did it cross my mind I would one day find myself with my own hands in dough. Not only baking for my family but for countless others in our community.

I like to think every time my hands are in dough as a quiet nod to her endless work in the kitchen and her devotion to her loved ones. And although I don't remember her making anything specific to her Swedish heritage I think of her most when I'm making my Sourdough Swedish Cardamom Buns.

The cardamom buns feels almost like a hybrid of her bread buns and caramel rolls. An enriched, sweet dough twisted with a brown sugar & cardamom filling. Baked a little longer than my grandma would have done, but with good reason: to achieve the buttery crunchy exterior and caramelized filling.

As a baker having a favorite bread is a little bit like having a favorite child...how could you ever choose?! You simply don't!

But this week's baker's choice breads are some of our customer's faves and of course ones we really enjoy as well. If you're unfamiliar or haven't tried them keep reading to learn more. You could be enjoying one or both of them this weekend!

•Wild Rice Cranberry: I first had the inspiration for this loaf after a customer told me about a similar loaf she had in Minnesota. I was so intrigued and had to give it a go. Chewy cooked wild rice, plus tart dried cranberries and a touch of honey come together to make a delicious sourdough loaf.

•Marbled Deli Rye: our sourdough take on a deli classic. A rye dough and a molasses dough twisted together with caraway seeds.
Every time we have an extra loaf we always make 2 things: croutons for broccoli cheddar soup (recipe below!) and patty melts with lots of caramelized onions.
