The Homeplace - Guyandaise Ranch

The Homeplace - Guyandaise Ranch The Homeplace, also known as Guyandaise Ranch, is a horse farm just outside of Martinsburg, WV. We continue to farm and produce quality hay.

Originally purchased by my grandparents, Guy and Daise Slonaker in 1929, it has been home to and boarded many notable horses. Golden Boy (half brother to Trigger #2) and Black Hawk (originally owned by movie cowboy Colonel Tim McCoy) have both known it as home.

Recently Ron was asked can you describe Secretariats temperment ...Ronnies answer was well I call it his desposition ...Big Red had the most even and kind desposition than any other horse I ever knew ..he was bold without being aggressive he was a very calm horse he could be playful yet always ready to respond to you ...there was 1 time I will never forget he gave me a playful buck he was feeling so good and so full of energy coming back from a workout I wasnt expecting it and I guess I wasnt ready for it but I landed on my feet when I hit the ground he could have taken off but instead he stood there and looked at me as to say hey what are you doing down there ...he waited for me to walk back to him I passed the reins back over his head padded him on his neck grabbed a handful of main and jumped back on and Big Red calmly went back to the barn as if nothing happened ...1 thing for certain is Big Red never sulked or refused to try in a race ...Big Red was always ready to respond to whatever move you asked he alway gave everything he had ...

Today is my birthday hope I get some love here 💕❣️.

The crowd's roar faded into one sound: a heartbeat, steady and immense — the same one Eddie felt every time he brushed Secretariat's copper coat.
Two weeks before Belmont, Pimlico. Eddie gripped his cap, nerves tight. Churchill Downs had already made the c**t a legend, but the Preakness was a new test, new doubts.
The gates opened. Secretariat lingered, as he always did. Come on, boy.
Then he moved — and the field disappeared behind him. By the first turn, he was gone.
"Once he moved," Eddie said, "it was like he had wings. You couldn't catch him, because he wasn't just running — he was flying."🐎
