The Rusty Porch

The Rusty Porch It's "About Bloomin' Thyme" I realize my passion and pursue this business of a fresh cut flower farm.

My desire is to create a place of beauty where people can come and cut a bouquet of flowers as well as enjoy the peace of being in the country.

My little bee friends are hard at work in the garden, doing their magic on the bread seed poppies. šŸāœØ
The blooms may be fading, but in their place come these beautiful and whimsical seed heads — full of texture, character, and so much charm.

One of my favorite reminders that every stage in the garden has its own kind of beauty. 🌿

There’s something really special about seeing flowers grown close to home make their way into the hands of local florists. This year I’ve been looking for a way to share more of what we grow here on the farm, because thankfully we produce more blooms than I can sell at the farmers market alone.

So this season I joined a local flower collaborative here in the Treasure Valley — a place where growers and florists can connect directly to provide beautiful, locally grown flowers to our community. It has been so much fun getting to know other local growers, talking flowers, sharing ideas, and being part of something that supports local agriculture and creativity at the same time.

There’s just something meaningful about flowers grown with care, harvested fresh, and staying right here in our local community. šŸŒæšŸ’

There are a few spots around the farm where I’m slowly shifting things—planting more native and drought-tolerant varieties, and leaning into a more natural feel.

I’ve always been drawn to the look of wildflowers, but most of what I’ve learned has been a more manicured, structured style… so this has definitely been a stretch for me.

In this section, I decided to let things reseed on their own and just step in to pull the big weeds. Not perfect, not polished—just a little more hands-off.

And in the middle of it all, these bright yellow blooms showed up in full glory. A good reminder that sometimes, letting go a bit makes space for something really beautiful. 🌼

Last year I took a step back.

Trying to manage both my work space and personal space became too much, and something had to give. I had to face a hard truth—my expectations no longer matched my reality, and I simply can’t do what I used to do.

But that didn’t mean stopping.

I still spent time with the flowers, creating and bringing bouquets to the farmers market. I turned my focus inward too—working in my own gardens, planting more natives, and building healthier soil.🌱

This year feels like a new chapter.

We’re partnering with our local farmers market and will be hosting Second Saturdays from May through October. I’m looking forward to creating a space that feels intentional, manageable, and full of life.

Thank you for being here through all the seasons 🌸

Started working on this flower bed last year, and I’ve been slowly adding to it since. I’m pretty happy with how it’s shaping up, but I still want to tuck in a few more plants that will bloom later this summer and into the fall.

Gardening is such a creative process—always editing, shifting, and adding as plants grow and change. It’s never really ā€œdone,ā€ and that’s part of the fun. šŸŒæšŸ’

It has been so hard to keep up with garden chores this year. I completely missed pruning this rose back, so it might end up extremely tall! šŸ˜…

But while I was working in that area today, I noticed its beautiful pink blooms—already ahead of the ones I did manage to trim. A small reminder that sometimes the things we miss still find a way to shine.

Spring can be such a blur with everything that needs doing… it’s easy to overlook what’s blooming right under our noses. 🌸

I’ve been way behind on garden chores this year, and this rose is proof—I never got around to pruning it. 😬

But today, while working nearby, I noticed these beautiful pink blooms already showing off… even earlier than the ones I did prune. Go figure.

Spring moves so fast and there’s always so much to do—it’s easy to miss what’s blooming right in front of you. 🌸

I’m making a point this year to take note of which plants really thrive in my soil and bring the bees buzzing. This salvia checks both boxes! It’s been a standout in the garden—tough, beautiful, and absolutely loved by pollinators. Definitely adding more of this one next year!
