Cannabis consciousness is on the rise and Swami Select is here to help guide the health conscious connoisseur in the right direction. As social and political worlds begin to loosen restraints on cannabis production across this country and corporate interests pour in, we aim to raise awareness of the benefits of sun grown organic cannabis. We will also be introducing you to small heritage farmers w

ho, like us, care deeply about proper cultivation. Just as we strive to eat organic natural foods as much as possible, ingesting only organic, sungrown cannabis betters our personal health and the ecology of our planet. For too many years, outdoor cannabis cultivators have been hiding in the bushes, afraid to surface. In today’s changing culture, multi-generational specialty cultivators like us are proud to share their knowledge and stories.

Special Guest:
Eli Melrod of Solful

Eli Melrod has been an entrepreneur in the California cannabis industry since 2015. His interest in the health and wellness benefits of cannabis began in 2006, when his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and discovered the power of cannabis to help manage pain, nausea, appetite, anxiety, and sleep. While studying economics at Wesleyan University, Eli became increasingly interested in cannabis and inspired by the opportunities presented by the end of cannabis prohibition in California. In 2014, he left school to pursue his passion and quickly immersed himself in the emerging adult-use cannabis industry.

Inspired by his father’s experience, Eli dedicated himself to bringing high-quality cannabis to people whose health, wellness, and happiness could be improved by its responsible use. He began his career at an established cannabis testing laboratory, where he learned the science of cannabis, gained firsthand insight into the industry, and built relationships with pioneering cultivators, producers, and entrepreneurs throughout Northern California.

In 2017, Eli and his co-founder launched Solful, a mission-driven cannabis company founded in Sebastopol, California. Solful was built around a commitment to education, personalized guest experiences, and supporting small, independent craft farmers—particularly the legacy sun-grown cultivators who have shaped Northern California cannabis for generations. Since then, Solful has grown beyond its Sonoma County roots while remaining committed to connecting consumers with exceptional cannabis and the people who grow and make it.

Under Eli’s leadership, Solful has expanded its work across retail, sourcing, and manufacturing, creating a platform that supports independent farms and brands from cultivation through the consumer experience. In 2026, that work earned significant recognition at the California State Fair Cannabis Awards, with products connected to Solful’s sun-grown sourcing program and manufacturing operations receiving multiple honors—reinforcing the company’s belief that thoughtfully sourced, expertly crafted California cannabis can compete at the highest level.

Solful has also become a manufacturing partner for leading cannabis brands, including helping bring Garcia Hand Picked back to California in partnership with the Garcia family, Holistic Industries, and Emerald Triangle farmers. Solful’s manufacturing capabilities now span flower packaging, pre-rolls, gummies, solventless extraction, and ethanol extraction, extending the company’s commitment to quality and craft beyond its own retail shelves.

Solful and Eli have received numerous honors over the years, including repeated recognition as a top cannabis dispensary by The Press Democrat. Eli has been named a North Bay Business Journal “40 Under 40” and one of its “23 to Watch in 2023.” He has served as an Emerald Cup judge and spoken about cannabis, entrepreneurship, and the evolution of the industry at venues including the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, Sonoma State University, the Sebastopol Senior Center, and the Oakmont Cannabis Club. For two years, he also hosted a biweekly radio show on KSRO focused on cannabis education.

Today, as CEO of Solful, Eli continues to work toward a more thoughtful and sustainable cannabis industry—one that celebrates California’s cannabis heritage, creates opportunities for small independent producers, and helps more people discover the ways cannabis can contribute to health and happiness.

Swami is excited to welcome a fellow Wesleyan University graduate, although their time on campus came decades apart. However, much like Swami proves every day that age is just a number, so does Mr. Melrod and the positive impact of his dedication can be felt throughout the Emerald Triangle, and beyond. Speaking with someone like Eli offers the rare opportunity to watch a lasting legacy take root in real-time, so we hope you will join us this Wednesday, August 26th @ 6pm!

It's been perfect cannabis growing weather here in Mendocino, lots of sun and temps that are hot, but not too hot. The girls are coming right along, with flower buds starting to show. It's a classic Emerald Triangle summer season and we are blessed to be here!

While driving home on our recent road trip adventure, we stopped in the small northern Humboldt County town of Willow Creek, famous for both its many cannabis farms and also BigFoot.

Along its treelined main street we noticed the BigFoot Cannabis Company and had to check it out.

Not only was Bigfoot himself there to greet us at the door, but what we really appreciated was how they only feature local Humboldt Sungrown flowers. Right on!

Special Guest: Daniel Morford of Heartrock Mountain Farm

As true stewards of the earth, tending their little slice of Eden nestled in a bucolic banana belt in southern Mendocino County, Heartrock Mountain Farm is a multigenerational family farm established in 1977. Founded by Clifford Morford, it is currently operated by his son Daniel. Making seeds and cultivating fine cannabis has always been a family tradition and they grow have some wonderfully unique strains, all from seed. Daniel is also an accomplished poet and says “when you cultivate love it grows, and where love grows so does everything else.”

Heartrock placed 4th at the last two years of the Emerald Cup and 2nd, 3rd, and a breeders cup award for their high CBD line, Love and Laughter, which also won gold medals and a golden bear at the California State Fair 2026. Heartrock is certified by Dragonfly Earth Medicine for regenerative practices since 2018 and is a diverse cannabis farm with an array of pollinator plants and a variety of fruit trees. They hold a nursery license for seed production – you can find their seeds at select Embarc locations, with Dagga Gardens and Alpine Seed Group and online at Heartrock Mountain Farm.

An unbelievable breeder, one of our favorite farmers and nicest “neighbors”, Daniel embodies the best of Mendocino culture, and Heartrock Mountain Farm harvests some of California’s best cannabis. We look forward to spending the hour with Daniel and with all of you on Wednesday, July 29th @ 6pm!

The benefits of being part of the cannabis community in Mendocino County can sometimes be surprising. When we were informed about the upcoming show to be held at the Mendocino County Museum in Willits, opening in the first half of October 2026, our interest was sparked. Swami and I each contributed brief stories about our personal history of how we came to be involved in the cannabis movement here in Mendo, which will be featured along with several others.

TItled "Behind the Redwood Curtain", this will be an extensive presentation on display in Willits for 8 weeks before it hits the road and travels to other local museums around the state for a period of at least 2 years.

Organized by the nonprofit www.exhibiting.org, who regularly collaborates with small museums, this particular show has partnered with Mendocino cannabis archivists Richard Jergensen and Annie Waters as well as Casey O'Neill from Happy Day Farm, so it has a true local flavor.

Swami and I decided to visit the Mendocino County museum in Willits at the invitation of its director, Karen Mattson, a true "Mendonesian" who is a repository of Mendo history. I can truly say our minds were blown away by the extent of the collection within, from indigenous people's artifacts and stories to a huge barn full of vintage trains that used to carry both passengers and timber in the logging days. Karen shared details about the Native men who ran the 482 mile Indian Marathon from San Francisco to Grants Pass in 10 days back in the nineteen-twenties - astounding!

She showed us the historical exhibits of the original Creamery soda shop, down to the syrups that went on the sodas, and even the replica of the barber shop from the 1800's. There is more than I could ever list here, so I highly recommend you visit the museum yourself for a trip down Mendocino Memory Lane.

The cannabis show will occupy the West Gallery area with an actual hoop house as the central structure. Everything from cultivation stories pre and post legalization to trimmigrants and festivals will be included along with interactive components such as videos, art and music displays.

The museum was founded in 1972 as a grassroots effort and is operated by the County along with lots of volunteer helpers. It is open Wednesdays Through Saturdays from 11-5:00 at 400 East Commercial Street in Willits.

Visit https://www.mendocinocounty.gov/departments/museum for details about the upcoming cannabis show, but really, we recommend you go anytime - it will make you proud to be from Mendocino!
