Peek into our June.

June 13th we’ll be at Briar Brook, and June 19th at Canon Creamery’s open house for dairy month!

Most of first cut is home now that round bales got hauled home this evening. Hubs loaded the gooseneck, and then he loaded the flat wagon and took the Massey ahead of us. The kids and I followed behind with the truck and trailer. And wouldn’t you know it - somebody decided that following a loaded truck and trailer following a loaded tractor and wagon, wasn’t fast enough for him, so he passed us both. I yelled at this man out the window though because my heart was in my throat after he came up on us like that.

We did a soil test a few years back and found that the soil here is really good, minus selenium. So they really need the extra boost, especially while nursing babies. I’m sure all breastfeeding mamas can relate (🙋🏻‍♀️ after 5 of them, I sure can!) about babies draining you - milk, exhaustion, you name it! So we try really hard to make sure they always have that extra boost when they need it. And today they all went looking for the block.

Is hay season even official if you haven’t sold anything? The answer is yes. It’s official as soon as we start cutting for the year. But my honey is off to work, and then taking a load to a horse barn owner. 100 squares bales loaded up and out the door.

Boys got a crash course in how to apply oil to the round baler tonight. Round three of eighty billion it feels like. But hey- we’ve got HAY!

Editing this to add - the tractor is running at very low idle. My children are nowhere near the machine. And teaching them things shows them how things work and how children LEARN what can happen if not done properly. Farm kids learn at young ages that moving equipment means stay back.

8 thousand of you have followed this small town girl, living her dream with her husband and kids!

From the tractor videos to the kids enjoying our neighbors, we couldn’t do this without all of you.

Enjoy today’s egg collection that the boys helped me arrange and my 4 year old said “hey, that’s an 8 mom”. I said “yes it is buddy, that’s a great job”.

That being said: we have eggs in the stand again because it’s been BEAUTIFUL out. We already had a buyer come this morning to pick up some eggs.

The stand isn’t stocked with a lot yet seeing as I still have my car down.

But we do have eggs and our jams and jellies and some mixes here.

We’ve really got the people mad saying how awful we are and we abuse our animals because I’m a responsible livestock owner and we are castrating bull calves for meat. I know. The horror. Anyway

Here’s two of our yearlings (last years babies) who absolutely love us and want the pets and follow us around.

This is “caramel apple jam” my way. All recipes I follow are tested and approved with my licensed home kitchen.

Day 2, first cut. Square bales are so rough on all the men. Our farm friend said today, “isn’t baling hay on a Sunday something everybody wants to do?” And I said of course it is. Why else do we do it?

But seriously. If you’re one of those drivers who gets irritated following farm equipment, please stop at the field next time and we can put you to work. Then maybe you’ll have a better appreciation as to what we do.
