Does anyone let their kids name animals?

I think I’ve shared this before. But the middle of this photo is Diggy. My five year old named him last year. Yes, he’s a yearling. Just abnormally large.

He’s standing next to his full sister who is 2.5, there on the left.

But the kids have always called him, Big Fat Diggy, not just Diggy. So anyway. This is Big Fat Diggy who just got in trouble for almost rolling their round bale through the pasture again.

We had a whole crew tonight here for what feels like the first square bales of the season (it’s not but feels like it) and hubs was playing some tunes! lol cows around is one of my kids favorites.

Summer may be over but we are out here still making feed!

After fighting the weather since first cut, we finally have some square bales. It’s only October, right? Still plenty of good weather left.

We have lots of farmers and hay makers with hay down right now in Western PA.

With harvest season upon us, I’m sharing the first time my kids got to ride in a combine and experience it.

Farmers are out and about, going to and from fields with equipment and their crop. Slow down and be respectful!

“Comin’ in HOTTTTT!”

I am still laughing at him. This little brown drake we acquired with the last few chickens we got.

The ducks get new fresh water every other day to flap around and preen themselves in. And this little brown drake is one of the smaller guys we have but he sure takes his water time seriously.

Hubs loaded up the last of the round bales of 2026 from our lease fields.

My kids have been in heaven because it’s round bale jungle in the yard and it makes for the best playground.

We had friends over a few months ago and somebody asked how and why there was a lawn chair on top of the round bale pyramid? Well, we have farm kids. That’s enough said.

But also, square bales have kicked our a$$es this year. Between the weather forecast making field conditions less than ideal… oof. We have made soooooo many round bales.

Are you guys above average yield wise, just on par or below average for hay this year? I’m interested to see what everyone says.
