Big Leap Ranch What a crazy leap of faith we took! Follow our adventures as we build our Homestead Ranch Welcome! So far in our 2nd year, we have added quail and rabbits.

We are city people who decided when the pandemic started that we wanted a different way of life (yes, we are THOSE people LOL). We sold our house in the city and moved out to almost the middle of nowhere in January 2021 to learn how to raise animals for food or who have other "jobs" to do, grow our own vegetables, and enjoy life. In our first year, we added goats (Nigerian Dwarf and Boer), pigs (Idaho Pasture Pigs), turkeys, ducks, geese, chickens, guinea fowl, barn cats, and a couple of livestock guardian puppies (still in training). Hope you enjoy our adventures...and if you have any experience to share, knowledge, ideas or suggestions, we would love to hear them!

We won’t be able to be here (Larimer County Farmers' Market) next Saturday so today and Halloween are your last chances to catch us at a market this year 😁.

Be sure to come stock up on all of your pork needs (except for chops, those are sold out until December).

After Halloween we will continue to take orders through the website, text, and email.

Weather is changing this week… And they say there’s actually a good chance of rain! This morning it was actually cold enough. I wondered if it might snow though lol

In preparation, we got the peacocks a good sized covered area where they can stay dry. We are working on a better shelter for them for winter, but this should work for the time being.

And the chicken poblano aka chile rellano soup mentioned last night….definitely a family favorite ❤️

Canned chicken, roasted chicken, chicken broth, chicken enchilada casserole with the meat left on the carcasses after making broth, chicken poblano soup tomorrow with leftovers from the roasted chicken….and legs/organs in the freezer for dog treats….nothing being wasted ❤️

We were out doing morning chores when the pups, who were penned in the back area, started some serious alerting.

I went back to check and see what had them all worked up…and spotted a big coyote in the back of the field!

Can you believe these boys are 6 months old already?

Now that they have reached the 6 month mark, we will start working with them on the gps boundaries in preparation for increased independence and responsibility.

Exciting evening at Big Leap Ranch!

Millie, Marvin and Peanut finally went for rattlesnake training. Marvin and Peanut do really well in the car….but Millie really tries to climb up into our laps and keeping her in the back seat is a challenge to say the least 🤣. The training was good…and they did well/learned quickly! The training used sight, smell, sound, and it was interesting to see where each dog was strongest/which they relied on most. Of course you can’t do anything about surprise/didn’t know they were there bites, but they hopefully won’t corner them anymore and will avoid/just leave them alone going forward. Tonight will be there first night out since the last snake incident. Praying all goes well and they stay safe 🙏

When we got home from snake training, I noticed Chloe (barn cat) didn’t come in which is highly unusual. We were suspicious that she might be expecting….and Mic had seen her come out of the conex as we were leaving for the training and thought that was odd so we went to check there first. Success! Not just Chloe though….3 new littles ❤️. They were in a bucket with a bunch of junk which was not ideal or comfortable. Moved them to a crate in the house where they will all be safe and comfortable.
