24 Years of Happy Cow Creamery ❤️🐄
In 1978, a farmer moved his wife and three children to Pelzer, SC, to become a dairy farmer.
For the next 25 years, he survived droughts, bankruptcy, divorces—and yes, that’s plural. There were plenty of times when it would have been easier to walk away.
At one point, it was literally just him and his son left on the farm. Believing the farm would not provide a future for his son, he told him to find work somewhere else.
For the next 13 years, Farmer Tom got up every single day alongside two employees, David and Doug, to make sure the cows were milked and the chores were done.
But he never stopped fighting.
He even ran a grassroots campaign for South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture and, with nowhere near the financial backing of his opponent, came VERY close to winning.
Then, in 2002, his son came back to the farm.
Through blood, sweat, a 3-year-old child, and a very pregnant wife, his son helped build his dad’s dream—a processing plant and retail store that would give the farm a future.
On October 5, 2002, Happy Cow Creamery opened its doors.
And today, we celebrate 24 years. ❤️
Twenty-four years of hard work, challenges, answered prayers, and moments when God smiled upon this farm.
Farmer Tom eventually found a loving and beautiful wife, Miss Linda, and lived long enough to see the groundbreaking for the store you see today—taking us from an 800-square-foot store to 3,600 square feet.
People often tell us they believe he’s looking down from Heaven and is proud of what we’ve accomplished.
As much as that makes us smile, we know Farmer Tom well enough to know he’s probably too busy in Heaven to worry about what’s going on down here. 😂❤️
We have A LOT of reasons to celebrate.
And one of those reasons is YOU.
Every customer who has walked through our doors, bought a gallon of milk, brought their children to the farm, supported a local vendor, shared a post, said a prayer, or simply told someone about Happy Cow has played a part in our past, present, and future.
We don’t take that for granted.
24 years down. Lord willing, many more to go. 🐄❤️
