🐔🏴☠️ **GOOD MORNING, CREW. TODAY'S QUESTION: WHO LOOKED AT A JUNGLE BIRD AND THOUGHT, “I SHOULD BRING THAT HOME”?**
Believe it or not, the chicken standing in your barnyard has some pretty wild ancestry.
Modern domestic chickens trace most of their ancestry back to **red junglefowl from Southeast Asia**, and the best archaeological evidence currently puts clearly domestic chickens there roughly **3,500 years ago**.
Think about that.
Thousands of years ago, somebody looked at a wild jungle bird and apparently decided:
**“Yes. I would like several of those wandering around my house.”**
Humanity has been dealing with the consequences ever since.
😂
But there's something pretty incredible about it too.
For thousands of years, chickens have traveled alongside people.
Across countries.
Across oceans.
Across generations.
They've provided food, raised chicks, adapted to countless climates and become part of farms and households all over the world.
And this morning, somewhere in Western Colorado, their descendants are standing at the gate yelling because breakfast is approximately **four minutes late.**
Some things change.
Some things apparently do not.
That's one of the things we love about farming.
You're not inventing something new every morning.
You're participating in a relationship between people, animals and the land that stretches back thousands of years.
Different century.
Different farm.
Same basic deal:
Feed the animals.
Take care of the ground.
Learn something.
Build something.
Leave it a little better for whoever comes next.
Coffee up.
Boots on.
Feed the tiny dinosaurs.
**Hoist the colors.**
Go make your little piece of history today. 🏴☠️☘️
