Future obstacle queen? Or just another moment to make my neighbors think I’m crazy!!?

Maudie humored me today as we checked the mail together, balanced on stumps, and hung out at the 4-way-stop as 5 o’clock traffic roared by. Working hard to work on the thinkin side of her brain before she goes under saddle in the late spring of 2027.

Ponied my favorite two year old today. Maudie was fantastic! Like an old pro - she’s got such a good mind and I can’t wait for our trail riding adventures to begin next year. Thank you to Mandi for joining us and getting some video and pictures too!

Watching this makes me laugh. It’s funny what our body just does. Like…why do I lift my arm so high when we start walking? It’s low when we are sitting in the water and low when I get to land. Did my arm think it was going to get wet?! 😂

Between the drought and the issues at the Clemson Saddle D**e, Lake Hartwell is so low. I’ve never been able to ride this close to the Isaqueena Dam. It’s crazy!

I took my husband’s horse out for a spin today. She sure is fun, fun, fun! Lake Hartwell and all of the tributaries that feed it are all so low. It felt like we were gaiting along the marshy banks of the inlet. Isn’t her mane so gorgeous?! I love watching it when she’s gaiting!

Shorter ride than anticipated today. Squirrel started off fine- lovely little pitter patter gait with no issues. About two miles in she was definitely sore. Pulling off the trail and stopping, avoiding rocks, etc. I ended up hopping off and walking beside her for a mile back to the trailer. No matter how bad I want to ride, it’s not worth hurting my horse. No bounding digital pulse, no heat on hooves, and no stretched stances, so I’m assuming Saturday afternoon’s trim was a little more aggressive than her hooves could handle with the rocks at DuPont- even with boots on. But I gave her a dose of Bute and put her in the dry lot with hay just to be safe.

On the bright side, the leaves at DuPont are starting to turn and it’s just lovely. I sure do love this place.

If Maudie’s mane is this long at only 2 years old, I’m crying inside a little at how long it will be in a few years. I have finally embraced it though. While I don’t love braiding it, I do enjoy how beautiful it is when I let it out of braids.
