We’ve noticed lately that there are a lot of labels, claims, and marketing buzzwords in the dairy aisle. We prefer to let our milk speak for itself.

On our farm, we believe great milk starts with healthy, well-cared-for cows and our family, who takes pride in every step of the process. Our Jersey and Holstein cows are raised with care, fed non-GMO crops grown right here on our farm, and milked just a short distance from where every bottle is filled.

Our milk is unique because it is gently vat pasteurized at a low temperature and bottled right on the farm within hours of milking. In fact, we’re proud to be the only cow micro-creamery in New Jersey using this traditional low-temperature vat pasteurization process for bottled fluid milk. The result is milk that retains the rich, creamy flavor nature intended while still meeting the highest food safety standards.

Fresh milk from honest farmers.

When you know your farmer, you know your food. 🥛❤️

What does it actually mean when a dairy product is labeled “Grade A”?

The term “Grade A” isn’t just a marketing phrase, it’s actually a regulatory designation that comes with strict requirements for farms and their processing facilities.

In the United States, only Grade A dairy facilities can legally ship dairy products across state lines. To maintain this status, we must meet rigorous standards for sanitation, milk quality, testing, and recordkeeping. Facilities approved under these standards are listed on the Interstate Milk Shippers (IMS) List. It is updated regularly; dairies and facilities can be added or removed as they pass or fail inspections.

If a dairy product is labeled as “Grade A,” you should be able to find the facility on the list: https://www.fda.gov/media/190880/download?attachment. If you see a dairy product with a “Grade A” label, and that facility isn’t on this list, then that’s a problem.

You’ll also see product codes by each facility’s name. For example, next to our name, you’ll see “1”, “2”, and “18”. This means we can sell raw milk for pasteurization, pasteurized fluid milk and eggnog. If a facility doesn’t have those numbers next to their name, then they cannot sell that product with a “Grade A” label.

We are sharing this because transparency matters.

Consumers deserve confidence that the claims made on a label are backed by the certifications and regulatory approvals required by law. While mistakes can happen, any facility representing itself as Grade A should be able to demonstrate compliance through the appropriate public records.

At the end of the day, dairy farmers and processors who invest the time, resources, and effort to maintain Grade A status help uphold the integrity of our industry and give consumers confidence in the products they purchase.

As we get closer to our 6th Annual Open House (six already??😮) and kick start our brand refresh initiative, we’ve taken a lot of time to reflect on our partners who put their faith and trust in us, and help us share our milk with our community.

Our business wouldn’t work if we didn’t have great partners, and we’re so lucky to collaborate with so many local farms, markets and businesses, some of which have been with us since literally day 1!

If you’re searching for local milk bottled right on the farm and produced with care, check out any of our partners below! They all offer amazing products in addition to carrying our milk!

Big changes to kick off June Dairy month! 🥛🎉

It’s only fitting that on World Milk Day we are launching our brand redesign done courtesy of Farm and Fir Co.!

Our creamery was founded in 2020, and since then we’ve grown and learned more about our brand and farm identity; our new logo reflects that and we hope it will take us into this new era on the farm.

Over the coming months we will be rolling out our new branding, including updating our labels and signage, so be on the lookout! And, if you come to our Open House on June 6th, you might even be able to get your hands on some new creamery apparel 😉

Thank you Farm and Fir Co. for bringing our vision to life!

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Dan’s grandfather, Tom Lyness.

Without Tom, there would be no Spring Run Dairy. Tom and his wife, Mary Janet, purchased this farm and moved to Pittstown in 1985. They dedicated years to restoring the historic farm house on the property and bringing the farm back to life. They named it “Spring Run Farm” after Spring Run Lane in Martinsville, NJ where they lived prior. If you’ve visited the farm in recent years, you may have seen him driving around in his golf cart checking on the farm, the pastures and making sure all the cows’ water tubs were always full.

We are proud to carry on the Spring Run legacy and hope that we can continue to honor his vision for our family farm.
