Celebrate June Dairy Month with us at the farm on June 6th!

Visit the farm on Saturday, June 6th from 10:00am - 1:00pm for a behind the scenes look at our farm and lots of fun activities!

We’ll be doing a milking demo and hay wagon ride tours of the farm, plus we’ll be joined by local vendors and the Kick Butt Kids 4-H Goat Club (and their goats)!

Local vendors include:

Baldwin Dairy Soap with new inventory of handmade soaps! 🧼

Coyote Ridge Homestead will be here with some fun pot painting activities and local goods! 💐

Make a custom hat with Ms. Blue Jean Baby! 🧢

Augusta Acres will also be here with fun maple syrup products to sample!

Something special that’s planned to kick off the day - NJ State Dairy Princess Dakota will be joining us not only to scoop free ice cream from Sandy’s Scoops but also to crown the new Hunterdon County Dairy Princess!

And finally, we are excited to share that the first 25 groups to arrive (group = household unit) will receive a FREE Spring Run Dairy swag bag, some of which might contain coupons for free product from the farm store! NEW addition to the bags, there might be a few Sandy’s Scoops gifts cards in some of them! 😉

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Dan’s grandfather, Tom Lyness.

Without Tom, there would be no Spring Run Dairy. Tom and his wife, Mary Janet, purchased this farm and moved to Pittstown in 1985. They dedicated years to restoring the historic farm house on the property and bringing the farm back to life. They named it “Spring Run Farm” after Spring Run Lane in Martinsville, NJ where they lived prior. If you’ve visited the farm in recent years, you may have seen him driving around in his golf cart checking on the farm, the pastures and making sure all the cows’ water tubs were always full.

We are proud to carry on the Spring Run legacy and hope that we can continue to honor his vision for our family farm.

The farm store is open from 10:00am - 5:00pm every day, and we are fully stocked with milk and farm goods!

We are less than 1 month away from our 6th Annual Open House and we couldn’t be more excited for this year’s lineup of events!

In addition to featuring our fan-favorite milking demonstration and hay wagon ride tours of the farm, we are also excited to share the following people will be joining in on the festivities:

The Kick Butt Kids 4-H Goat Club will be bringing some baby goats for you to visit with and doing a goat milking demonstration! They will also have some handmade products for sale to benefit their club!

Coyote Ridge Homesteadwill be back with a lot of kid-friendly activities!

Ms Blue Jean Baby will also be back to help you make the custom hat of your dreams!

Baldwin Dairy Soap is joining us with a great selection of her handmade milk soaps available!

Our New Jersey State Dairy Princess will be at the event helping us scoop free ice cream from Sandy’s Scoops!

It’s going to be a fun day featuring lots of local friends, great products and even some special Spring Run Dairy giveaways!

Annual dairy barn cleaning was a success! 🧼

Every year we completely empty out the barn and clean it from top to bottom, washing away the dirt and dust that’s built up over the year. In addition to power washing the entire barn, we wash the windows, the screens, the whiteboards, milking carts…everything! It’s a great way to refresh for the spring and help maintain a clean environment for our herd!

Thanks to all who helped get this massive task done in one day!

There’s something special about keeping things close to home, especially when it comes to your food. From early mornings in the barn to the final cold bottle of milk, every step of the production process actually happens right here on the farm. Every product with our label on it is made and packaged with care right here. 💕

No long trips, no unnecessary stops, no delays…just fresh milk handled with care from start to finish. When we say this is local milk, we truly mean that. You can taste the difference when the milk doesn’t have far to go to get from cow to your family’s table. 🥛

Our community always shows up for us - and wow! Thank you for voting for our milk for Best Speciality Food in Hunterdon County! It’s truly an honor, and this feels extra special because it’s a recognition for our milk! 🥛

We pour our hearts into the farm and our cows in order to share high quality milk with our community. We love what we do, and we love that you love our milk! 💕

Our favorite event of the year - Christmas with the Cows - was also a finalist in the Best Family Event category! Thank you to everyone who voted and shows up year after year to kick off the holiday season with some farm magic!

Congratulations to all our partners and farm friends who won and were finalists in different categories! It’s an honor to work with/farm beside you in the Garden State!

2026 is the International Year of the Woman Farmer! I’m proud to be farming in the Garden State alongside so many other strong women, and look forward to seeing what the next generation of Women in Agriculture bring to our state!

2026 is the International Year of the Woman Farmer! The New Jersey Department of Agriculture is proud to highlight women farmers across New Jersey who play an impactful role and continue to shape agriculture in the Garden State.

This spotlight features Sarah Lyness of Spring Run Dairy, in Pittstown, New Jersey.

🐮 How many years have you been farming?
10+ years

🐮Briefly describe your farm operation.
I operate Spring Run Dairy and The Creamery at Spring Run Dairy with my husband Dan on our farm in Pittstown, New Jersey. We milk 50 registered Holstein and Jersey cows in our barn that we built in 2013. We also bottle our milk in our on-farm creamery and are proud to offer our low temp, vat pasteurized non-homogenized whole milk across our state and surrounding region. We raise all of our young stock and grow our own non-gmo feed for our herd. We offer various on-farm events throughout the year because we strongly believe in being transparent with consumers!

🐮 What inspired you to become a farmer?
I've always felt a strong connection with and appreciation for dairy cattle beginning at a young age when I became involved in 4-H and FFA. I really enjoy the day-to-day work on the farm, especially the calf raising responsibilities. There is no better feeling than watching your herd thrive out on lush pasture on a beautiful fall day!

🐮 What advice would you give to other women considering a career in agriculture?
My best advice would be to feel confident in creating your own opportunities! I've learned that there is no better advocate for you than you! Don't be afraid to ask for chances to showcase your abilities, share your story or prove your worth. It's easy to wait for chances to come to you, but in the meantime you might miss out on your dream job, collaboration or project because you were too afraid to advocate for yourself!
