A day full of happy animals (& farmers!)

This past weekend we got our cows & meat chickens on fresh pasture!! Our boys were so happy to help out & it makes these moments so fulfilling. There’s not much that is more satisfying than a day like this on the farm. 🙏🏼

Our future hay field 💛

We plan to make our own hay on the property in the next 2-3 years. By then we should have all the equipment needed to make it possible.

Right now though, we will continue to mow the area to suppress the weeds but promote more growth of clover & grasses. We then plan to broadcast alfalfa in the spring we are ready to plant! (This is not a common method, but we have talked to a few farmers who say that it should work 🤷🏼‍♀️ hah!)

I grew up bailing and unloading hay every summer so I honestly can’t wait. The bright green color of the alfalfa, the distinct smell of freshly cut hay, getting a workout in with unloading and then hopping in the pool to cool down and get all the hay off (it gets in every nook & cranny 🤭)! —oh yeah, I think a pool is in the plans also!

Never a dull moment over here on the farm & the dreams keep growing. Watching our hard work pay off every year has been so fulfilling.

We visited a local farm this past weekend! Not because our boys don’t get enough experience of farm life, but because Farmcraft Farm is a perfect example of a successful regenerative farm.

I know them personally, and have already asked them some questions, but we’ve been wanting to see their farm in person and really wanted to get some tips and ideas as we plan to expand what we are already doing.

Using the animals and nature in synchronicity is key to a successful farm in my eyes. You’re not only raising happy & healthy animals that then go on to keep the community healthy, but you are also keeping the land alive and fruitful as well. No antibiotics, vaccines, herbicides or pesticides necessary.

Regenerative agriculture is how we can heal this planet.

Nothing like a little post-dinner entertainment courtesy of Barley. This little guy makes us laugh anytime we see him running around. Ivy joins in sometimes too and they run around like puppies!
