Mead is an ancient alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with water. Often called "honey wine," it is actually in its own unique category. Mead can range from dry and crisp to sweet and syrupy, and its alcohol content typically varies between 3% and 20% ABV.
Like beer is brewed from grains or wine from grapes, mead's primary fermentable sugar comes entirely from honey. While a traditional mead only requires honey, water, and yeast, many modern meadmakers add extra ingredients for flavor.
Melomel: Mead brewed with fruits (like berries or apples).Metheglin: Mead steeped with spices or herbs.
Cyser: Mead made with apples or apple cider.Styles and Characteristics
